Vang Comp wait times

I'd drive to Vegas and pick it up, unfinished.
I wanted to send my Mossberg 500 barrel, but after following this thread, there is no way I would send it.

I think I would let them know I was coming. Otherwise I could be waiting hours for them to find it.

OK guys I think this has been taken care of. The gun was finished except for the rear sight and without the rear sight it is useless..

Cody is having a problem with the supplier of the rear sight assembly and that's where the hold up is.

I am going to be looking at these along with a shop I use that is a little more reliable.

Please don't think these guys are a bunch of Flakes, they do really nice work.

Lots of people here have a tendency to go off half cocked and say a bunch of negative stuff when they don't understand the issue. It is not as simple as it appears.

It’s finished. I paid. I got a tracking number and it’s on its way. For the wait they upgraded my front sight with a tritium sight and threw in an extra side carrier.

Thank you Randy for your help reaching out to them as I see you have a good rapport with them. I hope you can assist them with the rear sight issues going forward.

Sounds like I sent my gun to them at the worst possible time which made this a frustrating experience for me.

I may send a couple barrels their way since the turnaround on those is much quicker.

You did good for the OP. Unfortunately, the guys at Vang need to figure out their customer communication just as much as their supply issues. This one gun was a very visible situation for a lot of people. After the initial post, they probably should have communicated a lot better with the OP. Any little glitch could have been smoothed out with a 30 second call, text or email.

Nice! I can see how that rear sight can be complicated. Glad they got some bugs worked out.

Terry: Thanks for the Nod. Something you guys are not aware of is that Cody gets @80 emails a day, and another 60 or so phone messages. He works from 6AM to 6+ PM 6-7 days a week.

I understand the frustration of it looking like you are being ignored. I see it at McDonalds frequently when people are waiting to place an order and there is nobody at the Cash Register to take them. A simple We'll be right with you will generally fix the problem.

Unfortunately his calls require more than an "I'll be right with you," so he's looking at minutes. As an example My call to him today lasted 20 minutes. Discussing the sight project.

Why

They are optimistic about things....

I had an experience with a shop in OC and it took 6 months longer than promised.

I know a lot of small shops need 2 of the owner
1 to sit on the phone all day
1 to work

I just had a remodel get delayed as
Base board was out of stock
Solid core doors were out of stock
Panel ready dishwashers - unobtanium
Drawer glides - none in the us

All work was done except for those items
It took 90 days to get that all in stock.

So are you happy with the gun? It sure looks nice, and I really like the vent rib!

I think you'll find that it shoots well too. Do pattern it at 15,20 and 25 yards with Low Recoil 00 Buck so you can see the pattern. And if you get to shoot at steel targets take a shot at a freshly painted head on the target. With #8 birdshot it should completely erase the paint on the entire head with one shot at 15 yards!

I’m happy with it. They added the vent rib. The stock was the original synthetic stock that came with the gun. This was an old Santa Clara County Sheriff trade in. They put red loctite on the stock bolt so it’s gonna require some heat to remove/replace the stock. I’ll worry about that later. Gonna shoot it as is for a bit.

Went to the back of the safe, grabbed my 590A1, took the barrel off. Sent it last Wednesday, Vang got it Friday, Monday got a tracking notice, Wednesday (today) it’s back on my Mossberg. Great turnaround on the barrels.

They had waited thru the whole Remington restructuring process for delivery of those guns and so were way over due on delivering the orders for those 400 guns, 200 of which were going to DHS .

Post 101, having two or more shotguns is a very good idea, especially for planned/elective work to be done to one of them.

I do also agree the subject Vang company got caught up in an inability to meet customers' expectations, although good-for-them for landing some type of government contract(s) during that time.

Perhaps all is back to normal for them. We shall read more about them if not.

Most of those complaining have never sent anything to them to work on and are just "Piling On" to put out negative BS to make themselves feel better. except it never does.

My point here is that if you don't have anything constructive to say, Why not just STFU???!!!

I was successful at getting some movement for the OP, and a couple of others. I won't do anything for the haters, no matter how much they bitch!

I can help with some things and not so much for other things. Kind of depends on the tone of the request.

This thread and Randy’s sticky got me to send in my 590 barrel last week. I seriously doubt a 1 weekday turnaround like Ralston got on his barrel recently. but anything up to 15-20 days, as stated on the website would be just fine! I am very looking forward to the result!

And on to something constructive, Randy since you seem to be close to Cody, maybe it would be a good idea to suggest he hire someone to work the phones and emails to deal with customer inquiries.

That should free up Cody to be able to work more on the shotguns.

Thanks for the Nod DArBad. I have been beating on Cody for months to hire some more people. The problem is they can't seem to find anyone who gives a ship about their work to the degree that they would allow them to work on the guns.

They also want someone who is going to stick, and not work for a while and then go do something else at the end of summer. Not much available in the Las Vegas Labor Market other than Illegals that can just barely run a shovel. Plenty of them out there. Very few people that can do what is necessary for this very specialized job..

I will keep after him, but the other side of this is that after the big HHS contract is filled (which will be soon) they won't need the extra Help, so they get someone up to speed and then they have to let them go? Nobody wants that.

Got my barrel back today. VC received the barrel Monday of last week, then finished and shipped out last Friday. That’s a 4 day TAT for the barrel work. Decent!! No parts added or other work. Looking down the breech, That forcing cone is barely noticeable anymore.

Did you have the forcing cone lengthened? Is that why it is barely noticeable?
