Default Schwinn Axum Mountain bike 1/2 off - Now $228

Walmarts got the Schwinn Axum half off now. I picked one up a year ago for my daughter and was a pretty good value at full price.... Im kicking myself now: http://bitly.ws/uFQ3

IDK the Axum and don't know bikes in particular but when I clicked through I noticed Walmart has a LOT of them for under $200 that used to be somewhat name brands? IDK if they still are but $170 for a bike (others) is about what I paid for one as a kid 50 years ago.

A decent bike is going to start at $500 or so, and skyrocket from there.

You’re probably seeing brands like mongoose or GT.. they still put out quality bikes, just not so much the ones that Walmart sells. Schwinn may be an iconic name, but aside from cruisers, they aren’t anything special at all. With that being said, this bike at just over $200 seems like a pretty decent deal, especially if you’re just cruising town or lite trails.

I got mine delivered today. Thanks OP!

It's decent.. I looked at a ton of reviews and most say that it's one of the best mountain bikes under $700 that you can get.
We have a ton of OHV toys so compared to the quality and thrill I'm used to, it is quite cheap and very, very meh..
But overall I am happy with the purchase, would buy again.

I wonder how much that bike actually weighs.

Most of those cheaper bikes use some thick steel tubing because it's cheaper to get & build, but that'll make the bike weigh well over 30 lbs (which is heavy for a mtb, especially for a kid to ride on).

According to Schwinn:

That's fairly heavy for a hardtail. My full suspension Specialized weighs about the same (but it's much more capable and cost ~10x as much). If this is all you can afford, then it's a great entry level bike to get into the sport for a beginner or casual rider.

And it actually looks pretty cool. There were 2 adages from when I started riding: Spend at least $1k to get a decent bike; and if a bike comes with reflectors, it's not a mountain bike. At least this bike checks off one of those!

One of the first things I noticed was how uncomfortable the seat looked... vid review confirmed, it's an issue.
