Hmmm, you might be right. I just tried to look for a recipt and couldn't dig one up. I knew it was either $20 or $25...

I have a question about the DROS/4473 paperwork.

Since I live where there are no local OLL-friendly FFLs, I have to drive hours to an FFL, fill out paperwork, drive home, then drive back 10 days later. All this is in addition to having them shipped to the hypothetical FFL.

My question is, is it somehow possible to fill out all the DROS/4473/etc paperwork, and then send it to my FFL, and then after the 10 days, go pick up the firearms?

Negative.

The FFL would need to see you IN PERSON, with proper identifications, before he can enter your info into his DROS system.

BTW, where do u live??

PS. it is all depends how BAD you want an OLL..... I remembered.... sometime back in 2005.... some of us drove 8hrs+ one way..... from SF to Riversider to DROS OLLs @ BSP when we only supposed to have only "2 WEEKS" left.... (so.... do your homework, ie. call up EVERY FFL list on gunbroker http://www.gunbroker.com/User/DealerNetwork.asp, or suck it up... and DRIVE!!)

PPS. I remembered those days, I had called up probably 50+ dealers all over the country to try to find one who has stripped Stags in stock and is willing to send them into CA!!

PPPS. hey.... anyone remember who started the famous "2 weeks!!" quote??

Of course, it was Ignatius. I was there when he said it. Or are you talking about who started it on Calguns?

I first ran into the sarcasm behind the "two weeks" quote from Mark Serbu of the Serbu BFG-50 fame. He always projected deadlines "two weeks" away, even though "two years" would be closer to the truth. It became a cliche term over on the serbu.com boards, and he uses it as a joke now.

Iggy stated in late 2005 that the OLLs would be banned in "two weeks" and calguns ran with it from there. I remember at least a few people making references to Mark Serbu during the time when "two weeks" became a popular joke/stab at CA DOJ BOF.

Great history.....

I did vaguely remember that the "2 weeks" came from Iggy.... I just couldn't remember in what situation did that pop out....

Was it one of the gun shows?

Stopped by Castro Valley Guns yesterday, and a gentleman there informed me that out-of-state transfers were "$100 + $35 DROS + tax". Even produced a crummy little print-out showing said fees. The $35 DROS line had an additional $10 Dealer Fee (25+10). I tactfully pointed out that DROS+$10 was probably their fees for PPT, and their own sign up front said $25 DROS, but he shrugged and said "$100+$35 DROS +tax".

Simply amazing.

No, I transfer new Internet or private party guns when I buy out of state from Jay's or Bud's. Jon is a genuinely nice guy who says, "I just want to sell guns." He is 90 minutes from my house, but I usually save up, buy 2 or 3 at once, and stop to hunt a few places either coming or going. I probably don't save too much with the price of gas over $3, but if you're paying $40 per like some folks, and Jon charges $10, do the math.

At one time I used Palmdale Pawn at $20 per + Dros - but last year they upped it to $40 + Dros.

Jon will put 4 long guns on a single form for $65. so if you time your purchases like I do, I save a lot and enjoy the trip. You'll find him listed at either GunBroker or GA, I forget which.

I went in to the Stockade, and they wanted $150 receiver fee + $25 + Dros so I believe I've managed to find both the best and worst price in Condorfornia.

Thanks guys! Keep it coming! A lot of people find this list quite useful!

ar15b:
C&W Reloading/$55 for the first gun or lower/$10 <- $55 is not including $25 DROS, right?

Peter at Magnum Range in Rancho Cucamonga has done a number of transfers for me. $30 fee for both handgun and long gun. He stated he had no problem with OLL's from Cold War, I assume no problem from elsewhere with FFL.

All the FFLs that are listed here, one or many of us, at least, had good experience with before.

Just call them and find out whatever you needed to know.

The fee is $30 and $10 for each additional. They will handle OLL's.

Ok since this thread still has not been made a sticky... why not move it to the Archived Threads Forum (Limited Posting), where it will be easier to find. That forum section is not even being used - and we still have a temp "you tell me" section up in the air??

Has anyone have any experience with Pennington Firearms? I usually go to Brightspot, but hes pretty far. Not to mention theres wicked traffic going east on the 60 after I get out of that place. Adds an extra hour to my commute! Will Pennington do OLL's?

Update on Roger's Relics, increased to $40 ($10), just started a 10 day wait today.

Correction, no price increase, didn't know they have different fees for long gun vs short gun. The beloved OLL's are still $30 ($10).
