Update: I just heard from my recruiter (after I contacted them!). I have been accepted pending an age waiver! Hopefully just a matter of time now. The age cut off is 40, I'm 41. Thanks to all who have commented. I'll let you know what happens next....

Thanks. It's been almost 2 years. Hopefully the waiver is not the thing that derails the whole process.

Hi all. I got a call today that my waiver was accepted. Going in for final paperwork and my commissioning ceremony in 3 weeks. Thanks to all for the advice, words of wisdom, support and opposing viewpoints. I'll post a pic after the ceremony.

I just got my first acronym, AOC specialist corps, 65B, physical therapist! Saturday is the commissioning ceremony. I still have no idea what to expect after that. I have not talked to anyone that knows, or knows about, a reserve PT.

Thank you. I am looking forward to finally getting started. Unfortunately there has been yet another delay! Commissioning ceremony was delayed from this past weekend to two weeks from now (yes, really two weeks) due to computer maintenance. No, you just can't make this stuff up.

It's official! I was sworn in yesterday. Thanks to all again for the words of wisdom. I still don't know what the Hell I'm in for but my current (third) recruiter seems to really be on the ball.

No one does. I'm here in Quartermaster school, and just learned that Veterinarians are in charge of inspecting the food my soldiers prepare for other soldiers. So somewhere there are Veterinarians out there (probably all of them) thinking, WTF am I doing here in the Middle East inspecting food at a cafeteria in a war zone? No one taught me this in vet school.

Most of the 68 series is forced to go through field san , as a 68W I had to do the week long course and a couple of extra days on water treatment and keeping food safe in the field.
To OP , if you are an officer never be afraid to interact with your enlisted soliders. IMO one of the worst things an officer can do is sit on the other side of the enlisted/officer divide. To this day I still remember the MP 1LT and how he would sit with us load mags and participate in our details when he wasnt overloaded with paperwork , dude was my hero

No prior enlisted experience. My first drill we had a UA and I was one of the designated meat gazers. Weird story to tell the wife when she asked, "how was your first day in the military?"

Yup. He was the only officer they could get to come in on a Saturday morning. I'm not sure if this is good or bad but I appreciated him being there. The whole thing was already delayed once due to no one available.

I went to great effort to make mine a ceremony with my Battalion XO and prior unit. Otherwise, I could have just walked into a UPS Store and notarized it.

I'm reviving this thread just to close the loop in case there are other folks that needed info about the direct commission process and the Army Reserves. Also keep in mind that I am now 44 years old and got commissioned at 41. So don't count yourself out just because if age.
Here I am, almost 3 years after my date of entry. I've learned a lot but much less than enough. A lot of things make sense now that didnt 3 years ago. I finally got through BOLC last Summer and have a couple or 40+ classes under my belt. I am glad I got in when I did. Anyone later has to take the revived direct commission course before BOLC. Everyone told me when I would ask questions, "you'll get that in BOLC". If you drill for more than a few days you'll get no answers at BOLC. You'll get more out of the online classes about Army organization than the onsite portion. As soon as you are BOLC qualified they come looking for you. I am scheduled to deploy this year, looking forward to that. Thanks again to all for the words of encouragement.

Otherwise, to direct commission to any other army branches one has to be currently IN the reserves. The BOLC I took was straight up the same BOLC for Active Duty. It was 4 months. I had reservists, national guard, active and civilian classmates. However, as RegGuy and myself have found out, where there's a will there's a waiver.

Yep............ I didn't trust my recruiter either. I looked up the regulations to ensure I could direct commission when I threw my Hail Mary.
