New Jersey governor imposes new mandates on guns dealers, manufacturers

Today I signed an executive order directing my administration to:

•Use our purchasing & regulatory powers to promote gun safety practices by gun vendors & financial institutions
•Take action against insurance policies that encourage improper firearm use

“[M]y Administration is committed to making our communities safer by aiming to do business with gun dealers that have adopted best practices to reduce gun violence,” Murphy said in a prepared statement. “We want those who do business with New Jersey to share our values and be committed to ending the scourge of gun violence in our communities.”

The Executive Order

1. an examination of whether State vendors that are manufacturers or retail dealers of firearms adhere to public safety principles relating to firearms
2. adherence to “public safety principles related to firearms” shall include but not be limited to... [read the EO]
3. a request, within 30 days, to all retail dealers or manufacturers of firearms that currently sell ammunition and/or firearms to the State to ascertain whether vendor practices, where applicable, adhere to the applicable public safety principles related to firearms listed above.
4. DPP shall determine whether and how to ensure that any prospective bid solicitation for ammunition and firearms include a requirement that each vendor, prior to award, certify adherence to public safety principles
5. Department of Treasury, or any of its divisions, offices or agencies, to disclose whether such institutions have adopted any code of conduct or principles related to gun safety or responsible sales of firearms.
6. The Commissioner of Banking and Insurance, within 30 days, is instructed to take all appropriate action within her authority to prohibit and/or limit the sale, procurement, marketing or distribution of insurance products that may serve to encourage the improper use of firearms.
7. This Order shall take effect immediately.

Why do I get a bad feeling that not only are they trying to 'set up' retailers/manufacturers to get around the PLCAA, but that they have been 'persuaded' to come down on the insurance policies made available to gun owners?

The thugs on the street that are committing most of the crime don’t likely have any type of carry insurance or homeowners and personal liability insurance and he the gov knows it. also there are no insurance companies that encourage improper firearm use and the gov knows that also. Unless the federal gov intervenes anti gun states like NJ will continue this garbage for ever.

So an inanimate object (the insurance policy) can now make a decision for a human that results in that human being “encouraged” to improperly use a firearm?

The technical wording intentionally blends non human items with human decision making...causing confusion and allowing for all kinds of interpretation...

And what the hell is the limit of “public safety principles”? Whose principles?

I'm pretty sure this is a direct attack on insurance companies that promote legal representation in the event of you shooting someone.
