Default Replacement FFL 03 License Timeline

Just wanted to document this in case someone else might want to know.

I wanted a replacement for my FFL 03 because I made the rookie mistake of signing the original license. I emailed NLC@atf.gov on 11-14-2020 to ask for a replacement. On 11-16-2020 they emailed back saying they would send me one. They didn’t ask for any payment.

I received the new license on 11-23-2020

You keep an unsigned original in your safe. The theory is that each time you are going to send it to someone you sign a photocopy with the current date and send that. Many people accept a copy that has been signed within the last month or two.

My ffl required “wet” signatures signed in person in front of the associate with that days date.

General idea is you make photo copies of the original, it says on the license that copies are accepted. For that reason you should leave the original unsigned.

Hence the post, I didn’t know.
