Default Good video of the power of a 12 gauge

Various loads compared in ballistic gelatin torso. I'm sure we all were not surprised but it was interesting to see the results.

Sorry, I had to bail after 43 seconds.

I couldn't take it anymore.

Also highlighted the takeaway that you actually do need to aim a shotgun, considering how tight the groups were at close range before spreading out significantly the further away you got from the target.

Also was more than a little surprised at how the car door managed to stop the 00 buckshot the first time around.

I call fake. In every movie I've watched the bullets are just below the skin and never hit any bone or vital organs and can be removed with a small knife. Also regardless of how many bandages are used there's always a red, blood soaked though spot in the middle.

Interesting ballistic dummies…looked fairly realistic.

All I know is that when I shoot buckshot or slugs…it hurts on my end. The receiving end has to be way worse.

Guess many of y'all aren't familiar with Garand Thumb and his channel.

If you can cut thru the drivel, there is interesting information to be had.

Intro was way 70s porn cheesy.

Everyone wants to reinvent the wheel.

Why

Money $$$$$

Flip back to where there are dangerous game - Africa

What do professional hunters use when going in the bush after wounded game?

12 gauge Pump with OO buck.

When a wounded cat wants to kill you or your hunter- OO buck is the solution

9 .32 caliber pellets at 1,100- 1,600 fps

It devastating.

Lots of FBI ballistic data
Lots of videos of loads shot into ballistic gel

The video posted failed me for entertainment and science

Love those old movies, all you had to do was pluck out the bullet, have a smoke and a couple drinks and you were good to go.

This or either the shot was a "through and through" and they were fine and no bone or vital organs were hit on it's way through them. Just some bandages and they were 100% again.

Let me sum it up for you; The 12 gauge is an effective self defense round, which you already knew.

I don't know who told you that yarn, but shotguns in Africa are used for birds, never big game, especially dangerous big game, let-alone wounded dangerous big game.

Minimum legal caliber starts at .375 rifle but guides would typically recommend rifles in .400-.458 win mag. Velocities would need to be upwards of 2400fps to stop a charging beast at "danger close" distances like 4-yards.

Legalities aside, nobody would go into bush after a wounded lion with only 00 buck smoothbore.

Plus, good guy with a handgun can take out squads of Nazis with submachine guns, drug cartels with AK 47's, cowboys in black hats and lots of lever guns, depending on the genre. Really amazing how the bad guys in movies can't shoot worth a s*** despite their awesome firepower.

I've lived thru four major riots now including the "Rodney King Riots" as the manager of a well-stocked gun store in the SFV. The first long gun I reached for at my home was my older Remington 870 short-barrel pump---factory magazine extension, 6 shots 12 gauge OO buck plus much extra ammo on hand---well tested and completely reliable. My wife definitely did not like shooting the 12 gauge, but would if necessary, so she got the Mini 14 with a 20 rd magazine and several spare loaded mags. She knows this rifle and likes shooting it. Thankfully, we live in a nice part of town so no actual gunfire was needed...
Fast forward to very recent times---the "George Floyd Riots"---the very same 870 and Mini 14 combo readied for potential action---things got a little closer this time---a store was looted just 3/4 mile south of us, but nothing got closer, and again no shots fired...
I'm a BIG believer in a 12 gauge for around the house defense...

Good video but I would have rather he started with Low Recoil Buck and then Slugs so you could see just how powerful the light weight stuff is first.

This is because the light stuff is more than adequate for virtually any Human Target. Not a whole lot of difference in the lethality of a 1 oz slug at 1300 fps vs. 1500 fps.

Not many people can shoot 5 rounds of 3" Magnum Slugs accurately including him! It's not that I can't,,, I just won't ,,, been there done that,,, Still hurts to think about it!

Also his Buckshot patterns with the M4 at 15 yards and beyond were less than impressive and really show the need for some barrel work. It is pointless to have a Tactical Shotgun where the majority of your ammo is good to 25 yards and not much beyond. Flight Control will add a little but not all that much as witnessed by the groups he shot. Vang Comp would extend that and 7" at 25 yards makes Buckshot viable to 50 yards ! Properly fitting Slugs can extend that guns effective range to 100-125 yards!

But overall it was a good video and gave some good reality into why shotguns are so devastating when used in the proper context.

Nothing lives thru a Slug!
