The SKS is a great rifle. Here's another option for you:

https://www.classicfirearms.com/chin...-rifle-762x39/

Whichever vendor you choose, make sure you clean the bolt and firing pin very well. These are loaded with cosmoline and sticky firing pins can cause slam fires.

Default Type 56 SKS

I picked up two of the Chicom SKS from Classic last year. Finally got around to cleaning one up last week. I paid for the hand select option, wound up with a rifle thatís in great shape. Should be a good shooter.

Get it. It's worth having one. A cheap 7.62x39 shooter that has a cool history and fits the collection nicely.

They are kinda cool and will shoot either great or minute of pie plate at 50 yards.

Fun to shoot. Get the Murry firing pin to eliminate any slam fires.
Cheap ammo and great rifle to have. Very accurate out to 100 yards.

I got one from Classic last year, very happy with what I got. Just be prepared for a couple/few days of cleaning to get all the cosmoline off.

Totally unnecessary. Just clean the firing pin channel every thousand rounds or so.

Putting extra stuff, in the firing pin channel which can break and foul the firing pin isn't a good idea.

I have two (A Sino-Soviet and a Non-Matching Russian SKS). Both are great! I highly recommend them. I agree with SVT-40 as long the firing pin moves freely, it is fine. Yea - clean it once and awhile.

I still kick myself for not picking up at one case back in ‘05-‘06. All original, never fired, packed case of 5 rifles & for less than you get ONE for now! I would spend what money I could in AK parts kits, always thinking “hey..there are plenty of cases of SKS’s. I’ll get them later.” Yeah right! Later never came.

If you really want one, do it. You won’t regret it.

It will turn into a machine gun and blow up on you when you least expect it! Pure hot commie garbage!

Just clean it really really well with OMS and an old toothbrush.

Chinese type 56 carbines are very well made solid firearms. Probably one of the most "functional" firearms ever produced.

I have a Yugo, a Russian and a Chinese. The Russian is an order of magnitude ahead of the Yugo, and comparing the Yugo to the Chinese is like comparing a 1978 Ford F-150 to a handcart. The Chinese SKS is in a scabbard on my tractor for coyote duty.

They are getting more expensive and the availability is drying up. Especially for numbers matching and unssued ones. I was fortunate to yet a an issued, numbers matching one a number of years ago. I've never even fired it. I have fired other ones and they were very enjoyable. One nice thing is they don't have all of the regulations that many other semi-auto rifles have.

I don't believe it does.

You can't have too many SKSs. PAX

No, not at all. The SKS in its stock form isn't subject to 922r.

But the firing pin modification is a totally unneeded modification.

I recommend them. Gone are the days of cheap bargain bin SKS's so the price you see at Atlantic is pretty much the norm nowadays.

It's a fun rifle to shoot, especially with old combloc stripper clips and cheap steel cased ammo!

Totally unnecessary x 10. I have used the product before and the spring can compress and get crushed at the base of the firing pin. I own many SKS rifles and all of them work fine without added gadgetry. SKS slamfires probably happen once for every 1,000 people that talk about them happening.

It isn't impossible to happen, but since fully disassembling the SKS bolt can be a bit of a PITA, some people probably skip it. That is when you will have a problem. Most of the ones I have bought still had cosmoline in the channel mixed with fouling. This tells me people are not properly cleaning the weapons, and then blaming the weapon for problems.

For all of the talk of AK reliability, I have had more hiccups with them than with the SKS.
