God I hope they don’t cancel. I have four days of private training on the 2nd -5 of June. Was looking forward to getting rounds down range.

4-days of private training!?!?

Hardcore!!!

Personally - I would be dang worn out in 2-days!!! I mean, the pace of private training is much faster, right?

very much depends on a couple of factors.

The student
what curriculum you signed up for
your Instructor.

The instructor has a printout of all the classes you've attended at FS so they know what you've taken but it's also up to you what you want to work on and your individual skill set
I've seen some privates where they went at a pretty fast pace because that's waht the students wanted and were capable of and other times I've walked past ranges, talked to the student and Instructor and they're having a pretty leisurely day.

The speed of my son will set the pace with the instructor. He is faster than most on the line when he gets going. If it is up to me we would burn through 6-800 rounds. Did a one day last summer and went through 800 rounds. It was a fun day.

@Jedi54 and @damon1272

Thank you for the responses. That absolutely makes sense... It being private training, I can actually set the pace. Hahaha!!! Why didn't I think of that?

You got to be kidding me! I hope your wrong. On the Federal side national parks are beginning to open so that should put more pressure on states to move.

yup.
it'll be at least June 15th until they can open.

something tells me that quarantine period NV has is what is really going to mess things up given that so many students come in from out of state

I’m registered for a 6/19 course and just got my “30 days out” registration reminder. So far, so good for that weekend.

Default 3D Printing Glocks

Figured since we're all like minded here, I'd just drop in my 3D printed Glock 19. Wonder if they would let me run it in a FS course?

The video is the first day shooting it, still got some break in to do. Seems like the FTF is a tight extractor, as it was doing it EVERY SINGLE ROUND until I cycled it a bunch, dry fired it a bunch, and just started shooting it a bunch.

Enjoy!

Video of test fire & break-in:

cool looking glock.
as long as it passes weapons inspection it should be allowed.
might get looked at by the armorers as well but it's not an auto disqualification just because it's 3d printed. (that I know of)

I signed up for the Defensive Handgun class. Hope it is allowed to go on. Already had a Gunsite class cancelled.

<snip>
I did a 4-day in 2016 and a guy in the lane next to me was using a P80 with a couple of magpul mags. He had more than a few malfunctions, but they worked like extra practice I guess? He was a cool dude, shooting with his father. IIRC he was a tradesman of some kind in the Oakland port.

No idea if the rules have changed @ FS, but itching to get back for another class.

Good point!

I'm curious to see how well it ultimately holds up after some break-in time..

Single point tac-sling is what I used. Like it much better that two point.

Either will do. All you use it for is a gun hanger to, from and at the firing line. The only exception would be if you use a sling for stability on the 50-100 yard shots.

It was the BRAVE class and they said they could not maintain distance requirements in that class.

My son and I have used and liked Magpul MS4. I use it as a two point and my son uses it as a single point. You can use it both ways and see which one you prefer.

Personally like the two point tactical sling. Really helps at the 50 & 100 yard line.

Just stumbled on an HCM and current FS staff in FB. I will ask him about it...

If it is not allowed, not a big deal... I can run it any other way.

Said HCM suggested practicing more on the headshots, hostages and odd angles. Seemingly that is where everything falls apart.

To quote,

we tend to describe it as 60 shots to tire you out before hostage-taker heads and odd angles. The last 20 shots are 7m, 1.5 sec precision shots.

After much practice w/ a two-point sling I noticed that between completing the presentation of the rifle to aiming/breaking the shot, a loose sling that sways back and forth as a result of presenting the rifle is enough to futz with your aim. I even noticed this phenomenon with a dump pouch.

I would keep the sling as shortened as possible to minimize the sway, while not interfering with presentation. Haven't tried single point.

I got the Vickers 2 point sling from BFG. It’s much easier to use than the Magpul.
Padded for heavier rifles but the regular is perfect on an “standard” AR.

Gotta love this. 60 hard shots just to get you warmed up, then the real test begins.... only Jeff Cooper could think of stuff like this, modified by Dr. P.
