How do you define "progress?" Serious question, not trying to be snarky. Do you mean behind the scenes progress like permitting/contracting/etc? I was on property last week and see no hotel... not to mention other "resort" developments such as RV spots, villas, water sports area, pavilion, etc.

The Phase 3 ranges are awesome however!

The Phase 3 ranges and all the grading done as part of that development is progress. They were still teaching classes in California when I joined so there has been quite a bit of progress since that time. Have I seen any progress since the Virus shutdown? No. Hope that helps.

When I see a waste processing plant in development, I will start looking for major development in housing.

Well they had gotten in the wet utilities last I saw. They also to my knowledge had to do a second well. It all takes time and money. Personally I’m more interested In the lights staying on and classes being held by and range in improvements.
Does anyone even think they could get a room in the hotel if and when it gets built thing will be booked year around.

Off topic but, I wanna make this quick.
So, I'm going through all my insurance paperwork. I came across paperwork from my NRA life membership that showed I had nra provided, free firearms coverage of $2,500 and, $10,000 no cost accident coverage.

Can't find any mention of it on their site now and chat agent didn't know what I was talking about. Can someone here confirm those two bennes are long gone?

I remember those benefits too, thinking $2500 was only enough to cover one rifle and half an optic. Sorry, haven’t been an NRA member for 2 years.

Hotel/Condo/Timeshares. If any of them were built they would be sold out the whole time FS is open and running classes. If I remember correctly, during the final round of offers for the condo's the only thing available was summer. Winter, spring and fall for both 1br and 2br were sold out. Although nobody had to put up any "actual" money. It was all credits, memberships or certificates.

Does anyone have the actual size of those steel targets they use on man-on-man, THG or ATHG? Maybe where FS had sourced the targets?

The wife got really enthused shooting steel this past weekend and I want to "buy once and cry once" getting those same targets.

I would take that much ammunition with you but know that Front Sight is in the process of updating the curriculum due to the current ammo shortage to reduce the round count accordingly. (approx 30% reduction)
Thanks

Anybody got a copy of December 2020 American Rifleman in great condition? Mine's pretty tattered and I just bought a Mossy 940 JM Pro. I'd like to have the magazine with the article about the gun in with my paperwork. I'll pay shipping and then some.

Casting call for a new show being filmed out at Front Sight this April!

Don Mann, a Seal Team 6 Special Operations veteran, and Warrant Officer, hosts a totally unique type of “shoot house” challenge TV show called Surviving Mann.

Sixteen contestants from all walks of life fight it out in a 21st-century high-tech special ops training center to see who gets to challenge Don in the ultimate survival competition. Which contestant will win the season-long competition? Will the champion beat Don Mann?

If you think you have what it takes to compete, just complete the form on this page and we’ll reach out to you promptly with more info on how to participate.

Wow. I won't survive the first encounter, so I'll just watch LOL

Are you central in the show's design? Will there be an after action analysis? What the guys did right and wrong, etc.? Make it educational please.

Will platform will this be available in? TV series, pay per view, etc.?

Not part of it in any way. I just happened to read one of the Dr's many emails and this one caught my eye.

If I recall correctly, they are basically the same size as steel challenge targets. I think the best place to purchase is http://www.targetsusa.com/

Have fun

For you Front Sighters that are needing ammo, Ammo Supply Warehouse in Pahrump has 9mm S&B 124gr at pretty reasonable (given the times) price. Now, I won't post this anywhere else because I want FS students to have ammo for class, not some neckbeard hoarder.

Thanks for the suggestions for the steel targets. I was rummaging in the garage and, believe it or not, I found two 2/3 scale IDPA AR500 targets I had ordered and forgotten. Now, if only I can find a hostage target for cheap...

I feel that. A moment of silence for all the gun people who have bought gear over the years that never gets used: safe queens, ammo/reloading component stockpiles for guns calibers that never get shot, targets that collect dust in the garage, random peripherals like holsters and belts... :: press F to pay respects::

Default Ben Stoeger Standards & HCM

Just sharing....

So, I just got a copy of Ben Stoeger's new book (and very much revised in comparison to his older books) - Practical Shooting Training...

https://www.amazon.com/Practical-Sho...dp/B08T43T7KM/

In the introduction to Level 2, ie., B to A class in USPSA, he introduces his standards (his older books had a very vague set of standards between beginners, novice, intermediate and advanced).

It is very interesting to note that the standards mirrors the Handgun Combat Master (HCM) criteria...
Check the Pairs drill below...

If you purchased and converted to a COOP Member, IS FRONT SIGHT NOW A COOP Membership now or are we still waiting for conversion? Are the Knights now Running it? Piazza, Ackman being part of the Knights?
So I understand that the Patronage Points are used to convert the percentage of Ownership based on Patronage Points - Correct?

That’s boring as hell. Anyone can do dry firing at home. The amount you save in ammo is probably nothing compared to what you’d make if you use the time to work.

Unfortunately... This will last until next year...

Ammo manufacturers, dealers, etc. are backed up with $$B of orders. We are talking months to a year... *sniff*

Price of 9mm at the Ammo Bunker at FS is now $1.21/round (with tax).

This ammo shortage is getting pretty bad.

Wow! $1.21 per round?

When will FS allow us to use snap caps for malfunction exercises?

That's about what I paid for .40 S&W there last September.

Remember this exercise in 4DDHG?

“Stop right there!”, holding your palms out in front of you.

“Stop or I’ll spit!”

Thank you for posting that updated round count. I have a class next month and my friend was stressing about it. This will help him. The class time should just be reduced to the correct ratio.

I was told that there will be more dry firing than before due to the reduced round count.

I took the 4-day defensive handgun class last fall and actually felt that we did too much shooting. IMHO, going to a reduced round count isn't bad at all.

I have a 4 day Marksman coming up at the end of April. It was already a low round count class. I can’t imagine the class going slower.

I wish they’d give the students the option to shoot like before or conserve ammo instead of mandating everyone to conserve. Some of us have been stashing ammo for years just so we can take classes such as these.

If it’s a matter of FS Ammo Bunker not being able to secure enough ammo, I’d rather see that students who brought their own be allowed to go on a high round track or choose to shoot little.

Flying out Sunday for another 4DDHG.

This will be my fourth class at Front Sight in a year since becoming a firearms owner. Finally G'd my third time out there during a 2-day Skill Builder. Hoping to DG this time around!

Will be interesting to see how different the class feels with the reduced ammo count.

I have a very hard time participating in the 4DHG class as it’s soooo slow after having done the 2Day Skill Builder. I can’t imagine it being satisfying being even slower due to less live fire. I can only imagine FS replaced live with Dry or Malfunctions. No fun.

And 250 rounds in a HG Skill Builder is a slow pace if your familiar with the curriculum. IIRC that course was 400-500 rounds, so it has been cut in half.

Looking at the updated round count for FS courses is a HUGE eye opener illustrating just how bad the the ammo supply really is.

Have the skills tests been modified?

Seems like those were 55-ish rounds for HG, which would make the 2 day HG SB less than 200 rounds of actual practice.

IMO, less practice will make the Skills Test much harder to "pass."

I believe they are unchanged. Generally the skills tests for handgun, shotgun and rifle are about 30 rounds + malfunctions.

I'm fine with that. I always go there with a good attitude and have fun.

I only have a week break between quarters right now for grad school, so lower round count or not, it's a way for me to get out of the Bay Area, be out in the desert, in completely different scenery, meet some new people and not have to think about work or school, and fine tune/refine my skills. Once I DG in the handgun class I plan on heading out next time for the 4-day Tactical Shotgun class.
