Default Need guidance on choosing a RDS for my G17...

I've decided to pull the trigger on a red dot for one of my Glock 17's (Gen3). Have them on my shotgun and rifle, and figure it's time to add one to the pistol.

I have Holosuns on my shotgun and rifle (507C X2, 510C) and they have held up wonderfully with no issues and was especially impressed with the 507C X2 on the shotgun after running it in a. multi-day class and it performed flawlessly.

I'm tempted to just go with another 507C X2 or a 508T X2, but there's a part of me that's intrigued by the ACSS Vulcan reticle for a handgun. I've never really had any problem acquiring the dot on the 507C X2 on the shotgun, but I'm guessing it's a completely different process and more difficult on a handgun, making me interested in the ACSS Vulcan reticle.

Then to throw a wrench into the gears, as much as I do love the Holosuns I have part of me wants to get away from buying from a Chinese company and go with a Trijicon RMR. But at nearly double the cost, one reticle option and having to take the optic off and then re-zero to change the battery only adds to the reason not to but the Trijicon.

Closed emitter is the way.

ACRO, Romeo 2, 509T/EPS, Kraken, Steiner.

Not interested in any of those. 509 is too big. Only going to be a firearm used for classes and the range, not life or death, and always have a backup with me for classes.

Why mess with success?

507 w/Vulcan ACSS in red is ~$255 at Primary Arms.

ETA: ^ Mil/LEO pricing

How are you getting $255, I see $320 for it.
OpticsPlanet just had sale with 11% off for RDS, so I bought a few HE507C in green, I want to see how I like green vs red.

That's Mil/LEO pricing: https://www.primaryarms.com/governme...and-le-pricing

~$270 for the green (my favorite color)

If you want an optic for CCW, go with an rmr. Losing zero on my rmr hasn't really happened for me yet after replacing my battery 3 times already. I feel this is widely overblown or a non-issue.

If you want it for competition go with a Romeo 3 max/xl or Leupold DPP.

I have yet to use a closed emitter mrds as I have yet to have issues with any open emitters.

I'd personally take a look at the EPS line.

If this is your first handgun optic, the PA Holosun with ACSS reticle is a great choice.

Unless you have a perfect presentation in every situation already, that 250 MOA circle is a great way to quickly adjust to acquire or re-acquire your chevron. I personally prefer a dot, but the chevron is fine. When your presentation is perfected to the point you no longer need the 250 MOA circle, simply turn it off and only use the chevron.

No need for EPS, it takes 2 seconds to clean the optic with an air bottle.

I share your sentiments here.

I have the holoson 507k on my 43x, and now i am noticing there is a Vulcan option. I have been toying with swapping out for that because i am still slow to getting on the dot. My Glock 17 has been asking for a 507c with Vulcan reticle for a while now....

Agreed.

I have and love my Trijicon RMRs. But I recently picked up a Holosun EPS Carry MRS. It is pretty good so far, but I've had it less than a week and haven't even shot it yet.

A properly done 509T cut actualy has the optic sitting lower and prints less than any of the top sown screw option. Plus the optic is more durable.

Give me a shout if you would like pics

Have a few eps carry and 509t

I prefer the 509T but eps carry are fine.

Training gun eps carry is on 10k rounds.

Training gun 509T is on 35k rounds.

I’ve had Trijicon RMR type 2 fail. One 6 months after I purchased it. The replacement failed 1 month after I got it. Lateral drift and battery tab failures. I’ve gone to Holosun 507c and 508t. No issues at all. Everything can fail. But some products have greater reliability. Even if it’s assembled in China.
