Being unsafe, doesn't make a gun illegal.
The police don't make laws.

Perhaps you can explain further about your issue/situation.
Unsafe does not necessarily equal illegal. Gen 3 Glocks made in Austria are listed on the CA Roster. If you modify the trigger, it's no longer roster compliant and therefore "unsafe". All this means is if you decide to sell it to another CA resident, you must do this as a PPT unless the buyer is exempt. Some counties do not allow certain modifications to weapons for concealed carry. Of course, this assumes the mods do not make the firearm into an otherwise illegal configuration (full auto, SBR, etc.) IANAL!! If you do need legal advice, you should consult an attorney. |

OP, you need to be clear on your question or we won't be able to give you an answer to what you are really wanting to know. |

Yea, in the event you wanted to sell it to another CA resident, you'd only need to put it back to OEM configuration if you were going to ship it to their FFL. Otherwise a PPT would cover any kinds of modifications you did sort of making it a flat out illegal configuration regardless of source of acquisition.

Partially this^ There are mods that can make your handgun illegal to own/possess however even with the case of an IA policy unless the mods made the pistol illegal such as adding a switch etc, the IA doesn't declare the pistol illegal, they decide it isn't compliant with their policy for use with a CCW. Using the non-policy compliant handgun doesn't make the gun illegal it just renders the CCW void if you carry/use that handgun with the CCW as authority to carry or use it. To be clear, just because an IA says they won't allow the handgun to be used with a CCW doesn't mean it's illegal. The IA can control when, where and what guns you can use with a CCW but can't decide a gun is illegal. IA's don't make the law, the police don't make the law. Also, just because a stock handgun like a Glock 17 for example is on the roster, making modifications to it (with the mentioned caveats) doesn't make it illegal to own only that it can't be sold by a dealer at retail as you would buy a stock model. Many modifications made to guns aren't observable by an FFL unless they disassemble them. Outwardly appearing handguns can be illegal in any respect but will appear to be stock. OP, you asked for legal advice and the last people you should ask are those you don't know and for all you do know could be people that are just guessing. How will that guessing work out if you act upon their comments are wrong? Which one will come to your aid and help out with your criminal/civil defense if it comes to that? Take all comments regarding legality with that in mind (including my comments).
