Default Need to be schooled on 5.56 for AR at the range

So i bought me a Stag 15L 5.56 3 Gun Elite. don't know if i'll ever be competing. I just found one for a great price....$1000, so i figured what the hay! ya know?!
so, i've had an AR before but never shot it. long story. and i was living in LA,CA. now i'm in LV, NV. so i have no restrictions on it. no such things as evil-features here (i think).

here are the important specs i think
Action: Semi-Auto Direct Impingement

Caliber: 5.56 NATO | .223

Barrel: 18", 416R Stainless Steel, Fluted Heavy Barrel

Twist Rate: 1/8 Button Rifled

Muzzle Device: Stag 3G Compensator

anyhow, like a new puppy, i need to know what to feed it.
i need to get range time in and i plan on buying bulk 1000 rounds to start. so what would be good range ammo for this? i know there is 55 gr and 62 gr. i'm guessing the 62 grain has higher pressure.

all the 556 i'm seeing is FMJ or FMJBT. they all seem to run about $300/1000 rounds
.223 is less expensive but i read that max pressure might be an issue b/c of the smaller throat size.....

i'm going to be starting with iron sights, i'm thinking, to get to know my rifle before i jump to scope.... so i'm not going to be trying for tight groups. i wear glasses, not sure if that comes into play...?

so what would be good, cheap, reliable, range ammo for me given the above?

If its a 5.56 bbl then shooting .223 will not be any problem at all.

I am sure you can find some cheaper steel case stuff but this stuff has never failed me. Also PMC Bronze can be found pretty cheaply as well.

Federal from PSA under 300 bucks per thousand shipped. Never steel case or 5.56. Always run .223 brass case. Get into reloading or ship brass to RMR for trade in or sell and buy more ammo

These rifles are meant to fire 77gr projectiles. Why don't you try 5.56 and .223 in 77gr to see which one your rifle prefers as far as the accuracy concerns.

With your twist 62g should be golden, they can stabilize 55g just fine to practice with.

Your in Vegas?
Go to Ventura munitions and two boxes of different 223/556 and see which shoots the tightest groups. Hit up a couple of other gun stores and see if they have something different to try. Don't go to bass pro to buy ammo.
Which ever shoots the tightest groups. STOCK UP

Why do you say never shoot 5.56 in a rifle chambered for 5.56?

Consider too the suggested projectile weight for your barrel twist. Have fun!

I see guy are still spewing fud on steel cased 5.56.

That was an old issue and has long been solved. like 20 years ago solved. Steel cased is fine. Tula, Wolfe, Hornady all good to go steel cased. I have three rifles running steel and not a single issue yet. close to 10K between two guns all steel cased.

Stag is a good rifle, mine has never given me trouble. I bought the upper used because IMO they’re a bit overpriced. I think I paid about $350-400 for a used 20” medium profile A4 back in 2009 or so and it came with the detachable carry handle. I used to feed it my SMK 69 grain reloads over varget for matches. For blasting, bobs bulks bullets 55 he FMJ over H335.

Which is probably why they are having problems with it running in their guns. Maybe they need better aim.
