I switched from a projected reticle to an etched reticle. Both units were duty quality optics. For me, the astigmatism issue was greatly reduced using the etched one.

In addition to the options mentioned here get some prescription shooting glasses. They make a huge difference at the range. They even make them with photochromic (clear to dark) lenses.

Astigmatism gives the "bloom" affect? I thought it made the dot not "circular". Kind of a stretched look.

I've been practicing with a RDS, seems I'm able to train my eye and now able to see a much more circular dot, with some bloom. Not as bad as previously. The dot is much smaller now.

I wonder if this is something you can train your eyes to get better at.

However my 1moa dot looks the same as my 3.25moa dot.

Only my SRO 2.5moa dot looks smaller, but that could be due to the physical contrast of the lens size.

Edit/Update:. I just looked it up. Astigmatism is basically your eyeball lense is shaped like a football instead of round. If you have prescription glasses, you can check for this.

Hold up one lense and look through it at an object. Now rotate the lense either clock-wise or counterclockwise. If the image stretches going one way and shrinks going the other way, it's astigmatism.

This makes sense as my left eye has it and I noticed the dot is slightly "stretched"

My right eye has very slight astigmatism and at 1st I had the stretched image of the dot. After practicing many hours, it seems to have gotten better. I'm guessing my right eye is just stronger at refocusing on the dot. Takes practice.

Agree with DoubleA.....my Spitfires (2 of them) have 4-5 red and 4-5 green settings and can get very bright, and are visible indoors or out.

On handgun optics, my Holosun green dots are noticeably sharper than the red....and I have astigmatism, too.

I have pretty bad astigmatism, so all my Aimpoint reticles look like this to me:

The Eotech reticle looks like this to me:

The only optic I have that looks crisp is my ACOG.

That's a bummer, pretty bad with the nike image. My left eye makes the dot look like a small binary star system with the stars transferring gas from each other. But again still usable if I had to use my weak eye.

I think I’ll stick with my prism scopes. For civilian use and older eyes, they get the job done.
