Default Folding steak knives

Just got back from a vacation, and fairly often wished for an actual knife at dinner - the UK paranoia about knives is real, folks.

So, since sometimes that dinner-knife issue pops up back here, I wondered what thoughts others might have on a dinner-capable folding steak knife.

I've used my EDC Kershaw on occasion, but it tends to get funny looks at the table, and I don't usually try to keep it 'eating clean'.

I've run across $5 junk, a Kai that seems to dull easily at about $30, and a bunch of $99 things.

I already have a little Al Mar that might suit.

Any experience and/or recommendations?

Default Cold Steel Surf & Turf

When glamping with the wife I use this as my dinner knife.

It may be a little larger than you'd like but it stays hidden well in the pocket and stays sharp. I picked mine up for $35.00 but they have since been discontinued. Still plenty around if you dig.

Regards,
Mike

Because #3 son is on some loopy drugs right now (Autism), we have all the steak knives locked away. Since only mommy knows the lock combination, and as steak waits for NO MAN... I have been known to take the CKRT Mk16 off my battle belt, to expeditiously (i.e. - before it gets cold!) eat a steak.

Those are cool. Kind of remind me of a Campbell's tomato testing folder I have... for checking out tomatoes off the vine (fruit tester). That KAI is tempting... but that's $30 I could put towards a $50 GEC Farm and Field. A personal steak knife can be whatever ZT or Spyderco you have on you.

Check out a GEC Bull Buster... even the name seems right.

You could go with something large with more than one blade too... this one is even made from cattle bones (primitive bone):

I'm here right now, and you ain't wrong. I use a Stanley break blade razor knife for stuff when I'm here. It's cheap and disposable, and replacement blades means it's always sharp. Plus the looks you get cutting food with it are priceless.

I just use whichever Benchmade I have on me at the time. I keep my knives pretty damn clean. Plus always wipe them down before and after eating.

Screw the weird looks, it's just a knife. They're just jealous they have a hacked up steak.

I actually have that bottom-pictured set of Opinel knives.

Poking around today, I found a bunch of Kershaw drop-point folders in the $20 to $40 range that ought to work.

I have been kicking this idea around. Having a sharp knife beats ripping your food apart with a dull serrated knife shaped object. If we could come up with an original idea, i'll make it.

If anyone liked the idea of a Great Eastern Bull Buster or large sodbuster, they can be hard to find... not available now, but there are #71's around (the smaller Bull Nose models). I think that's a great, more compact choice. I have a couple and have been resisting ordering these two - or at least the red one.

Settled on today's Amazon Deal of the Day, the Leek 1660.

Bought 2 stainless @23.99 (was 44.97), 2 black @31.08 (was 53.97). Cheaper than the Kershaw Guy by a couple bucks.

Hey, I've been shopping since August ...

The Leeks were out of my preferred price range until today.

I keep a ceramic blade folder in the pen holder at my office for slicing my apple at lunch.
No issue with corrosion of the blade, super sharp.

When I travel, I tend to buy a kitchen knife made in the host country and that is why it is in my bag Officer?

I carry an ice pick on Holiday. Technically it is a small tip Phillips screw driver for my digital camera.

So far the EU has crap security. They don’t catch much of anything at tourist spots.

If you have something for self defense, make sure it will hold up to some Self Defense use.

Beautiful knives, but at 100+Euros plus shipping and duty, well out of my price range for this application.

The leek's blade is extremely sharp. It's more of a straight edge though. I'd imagine that you'd only be using the tip area to slice steaks v. a belly shaped blade.

Still, for that deal, it doesn't matter.

I'd use the one in my pocket if I needed one I guess, ZT 0456BW... it has one of those tips, grinds, and factory edges that cuts like a lightsaber... glides right through the thickest cardboards. But as far as ZT's the 0452CF and 0450 look more like steak knives. A PM2's flat grind or a CentofanteIII hollow would slice some meat. Spyderco has a bunch of full serrated options too.
