Default Asking about Mosin Nagants.

Pulling stuff out of my safes, I came across a M1938 MN, nice looking, counter-bored, looks like it was painted on the receiver, beautifully sharp bore . Paid $165.00 plus DROS last year.

Worth keeping? On GunBroker they seem to be asking around $700.00, hard to believe. Anyway, just built up some loads for it. Unique 12 and 16 grains, Speer 150 grain, .311, Hot-Cor projectiles. Should be easy on the shoulder.

Waddaya think?

That is most likely what will happen. I understand that these short-barrelled little guys bark like my wife and kick like a mule. Hence, the reduced loads.

Put in up for sale on Calguns, in keeping with the rest of the sellers, ask twice what gun broker is asking. lol

Are you talking about a 1938 Mosin Nagant 91/30 or a Model 38 carbine? The carbine would be more valuable but $700 is a stretch.

Sellers can ask any amount under the sun on GB, but how many of those auctions end with zero bids and are relisted dozens of times?

For reference, I just recently acquired an M38 that is all matching to the prefixes and sits in a correct M38 stock. It was $475 from a very reputable dealer and I know I paid a bit too much, but they aren’t that easy to find and I felt fine about it.

Either way, keep it and shoot it. They are a lot of fun to shoot and have lots of history behind them.

It's the little carbine.

Thanks for the info, I will shoot it before thinking about it anymore.
Just got the forth call from PG&E, saying they will shut us down for days, starting tomorrow. I'm in the Santa Cruz Mountains, didn't think we would be affected. I'm prepped and ready though.

I bought an M38 years ago at Big 5 for $87. It was marked as an M44 but didn't have the bayonet or groove for it...
