Default Opinions on CCO versus commander format 1911’s

I am considering a CCO 1911, but am concerned that the small grip on the alloy frame in conjunction with the 4.25 steel barrel and slide would be nose heavy. I am tall and heavy enough that I could conceal either reasonably well. I have medium to large hands (manipulate a Glock 21 without difficulty).

Has anyone tried a CCO and wished they bought a commander format or vice versa?

I have a CCO, Commander and government model 1911’s. I love all 3 sizes, I dont find any issues shooting them well just don’t go below a 4” barrel that’s when problems start occurring with reliability.

Not a fan of the CCO grip, tried a few but never warmed up to it. I carry commander sized 1911s regularly and own three.

I generally prefer the longer, full size grip of a commander over the CCO types (which have officer length grips).

Thanks everyone, I am leaning towards the commander frame. If I need even better concealment I have a smaller pistol which could be pocket carried.

I've got four 3" 1911's (Ultra Carry II, 2 EMP's and a Warthog). All three function flawlessly. I've got huge hands (6'9") and can get a full grip on the first three. The Warthog has a two-finger grip but it is also wider so the grip isn't an issue for me. I shoot them often and with the exception of the Warthog which feels like you're holding a can of Coke, my grip isn't any different from my full-sized 1911's. The only one that is a little bit of a challenge is the EMP in 40 cal - you have to hold on tight!

I have both, but if you can conceal the commander easily than obviously more grip and an extra round is the best choice.

I’m 6’0” and presently a bit overweight, so a commander grip is not a huge problem to conceal.

I have an all stainless commanding officers model from 1987. It has a commander frame and an officers slide and barrel. I had Terry tusssey work it over and it's never missed a beat.

I’ve had every version of 1911 there is, including a Mk1 Detonics Combat Master. Honestly, my Sig C3 CCO is one of my all time favorites. I’d shoot what you bought as-is at least before assuming you’ll need to change.
