Default What caliber do you MOSTLY opt to carry off duty?

Just curious what caliber everyone carries the most when off duty, retired LEO or ANY CCW holder likes to use. I know many like me switch from gun to gun (including caliber) like a newborn switches diapers throughout the day. Just trying to see what the single most popular caliber is for off duty or CCW use is these days amongst us CG’ers.

Thanks.

Ps...it’s an anonymous poll.

I carried the same 9mm pistol on and off duty. After retirement, I am carrying a Glock 17 now.

Wish the poll allowed multiple answers because I really like my Smith 10mm but I carry the M&P40c more often in California because of the heat. I carry a 380 as a BUG and for beach days but mostly the .40

9mm.
Modern ammo technology makes this an easy choice. I used to carry a .45/1911 cocked & locked but why carry 8 when you can have 18?

Prior to retiring I carried a compact version of what I carried on duty, I wanted similar controls to what I had on duty.

Now it depends mostly on the weather as to what I'm carrying, but mostly it's a 9 or a .45. If I was able to purchase off roster it would be a .45 exclusively.

Answered 38 Special, +P actually. Think 9is the best overall caliber but that snubbie revolvers are the easiest to carry and deploy.

The 3 on my permit are all different calibers. 380 auto, 38 special, and 9mm. BUT, since I carry the G19 over 90% of the time, I voted for 9mm.

I think it would also be interesting to know the most common action types of CCW/LEO. Because again, the 3 on my permit are all different

Yeah I thought about making it a multiple choice poll, but was curious as to what everyone’s “#1” was.

I’m the same way for “beach days,” by the way. .380.

I wish Glock would make a 42/43 sized single stack in .357Sig. Or even .38Super would be cool.

I love my .38 snubbies too, especially an Airweight with Altamont smooth grips. It’s actually a better performing round than a .380 too. But the .380 is still easier to carry “ultra” concealed for me anyways. Like on a beach or the pool in when visiting hawaii.

9.

We are issued a Glock 22 with the option to qualify with personal owned. So, I carry a M&P FS 9mm at work, and a M&P 2.0 9mm compact or a shield outside of it.

My duty weapon is .40; but, off duty I go with .380 auto and 9mm. I have the .380 because I'm a woman and it's easier to conceal the pocket Glock in most situations. I've also been known to carry a 9mm (G19) whenever I feel like it.

Sig P365 with Golden Sabre +P, 13 rounds of "hope-never-to-be-used-but-will-go-there-if-needed" attitude adjusters.

I have been carrying G19 or LC9S (vacation/backup) for the past 7 years, but recently purchased a June production SIG P365. It's hard to argue with a J-frame sized pistol with 13 rounds of +P 9mm. Mine has been 100% reliable at 700 rounds, but there are still days when its reliability is questioned. I'll likely carry the G19 during the winter weather and run another 700 through for good measure.

9 in a G26 and Walther PPS M2, most of my guns are 9, cheap and easy to stock up on. .380 in G42 when I’m going gym shorts and t shirt though.

Glock 23 probably the most, but last Saturday I attended a wedding in Napa. Left the 23 in the car and only carried my Ruger LCP II for the service and reception.

But I have 11 different carry guns I’m qualified to carry in 45, 40, 9, 38 and 380.

I'm an old school dude. I used to carry a Model 60, which was the old school definitive off-duty gun.

Sometimes I carried my duty handgun off-duty.

I tried to avoid short circuiting muscle memory: I carried guns that were versions of my duty gun.

Since I've retired, I rarely carry. In fact, I couldn't tell you the last time I have.

I've recently bought an EMP 3 9MM for concealed carry. After a trip back to Springfield Armory for fine tuning, it's flawless. I've yet to carry it.

Not to hijack the thread- but how many of you carry at least 1 extra magazine (or speed loader for EMP 3), etc.
I have tried to make it a practice to carry one reload with me and I have at least one more in my POV.

Nope. Again, as a woman, I need to keep a lower profile on my body and adding extra stuff to cover up is a pain. Also, I'm more likely than the menfolk to get physically grabbed; so, I'm looking at 6+1 at close range is my max. I'm not going to be trying to go putasos with some dude while I attempt to reload.

Whenever i carry the LCR, I’ll usually have an extra moonclip. I rarely carry extra mags though. I usually always have a blade and handheld flashlight though. I don’t carry with the mindset of an active shooter or zombie apocalypse. I’d like to to get that Ruger PCC and see if I can lock it away in my car for that kind of scenario.

I usually don't carry an extra mag with my G19 unless I'm out fishing in the middle of the night by myself. I do with my G43.

Whatever it takes to have a minimum of 15 rounds. If that means an extra magazine, then that's what I will do.

Hot summer days I carry a Sig 238 in a pocket holster. Fall/Winter I carry a Glock 43 or 26. I'm retired and know better than to get "involved" unnecessarily. I don't carry an extra magazine.

Ruger LCP II with 1 extra magazine. It's just so easy to throw in your pocket and go. Glock 19 would be my second choice.
