Refillable water bottle
Hubby and I have always traveled with refillable water bottles like on this page https://bestvacuumflask.com/. Sometimes it can be a pain in the neck to haul them around, but it just seems like it makes more sense than buying bottled water all of the time.
Last couple of trips we used Brita bottles, but had problems with leaking. Looking for recommendations on bottles you have used that don't leak. Thanks for your help.

I use the 1 quart basic wide mouth Nalgene for shorter day hikes.
https://www.amazon.com/Nalgene-Trita...66232449&psc=1 For longer trips or where I want to keep moving along, I use a 2 liter Platypus with tube and bite valve. My pack has a small clip to hold the tube within hand reach. Similar to below, but mine are a much older design. https://www.amazon.com/Platypus-Hand...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== Shop around, the Amazon prices seem a bit high.

Mine is an older version I got at Target, but I've gad good luck with these:
https://www.amazon.com/CamelBak-1643...7777462&sr=8-1 Mine's only 750 ml. but it looks like Amazon has the quart sized ones. My son prefers the wide mouth Nalgenes as seem in previous the post. His never leaks, but he screws it on really really tight. Last edited by Ora Serrata; 08-18-2020 at 11:08 AM.. Reason: change |

Nalgene 1qt large mouth.
My experience has been that the white translucent bottles seal the best (compared to the clear colored bottles).

Although you may never need it it's nice to know that the stainless steel / metal ones can also be used to heat or boil water / boil food in an emergency situation.
But I definitely agree with getting the large mouth variety so you can clean them out easily. I had been using a very big mug called the Bubba mug ( stainless steel on the outside but plastic lid and interior) but after 1 dishwashing the plastic part of it warped just a little bit so I wouldn't recommend that brand. |

Depends on how much water you want to carry.
When I know I can refill i carry camelbak insulated sport/cycling bottles. Ice water in one. Other completely frozen. That’s good for 2 hours in the heat. Longer trips where I can’t refill, liter or gallon jug to supliment the two sport bottles And electrolyte tablets or pills. In the heat it’s not about how much water you have but how efficiently you hydrate

Takeya is my bottle of choice! They have a great lid, it is a screw off lid but the lid stays attached to the bottle so it doesn't get lost. Also, the Whole lid can come off for ice and cleaning. Metal bottle, keeps things cold and hot. I have to say, Takeya designed it, well. Sometimes you can find them at Nordstrom Rack, TJ max or Ross at a discounted price. But I would spend full price if I needed to replace the bottle due to loss.

I use a wide mouth with a drinking cap, I can also attach my MSR MiniWorks directly to it to filter water.

Check out the Ozark Trail series at Wal mart, 32 oz is about $8.00. I have one of the big 64 oz ones that I use for fishing and working out in the yard, keeps water cold for a couple days. There is a screw off chug lid you can replace the standard lid with. I also have a neoprene sleeve for mine I got off amazon. There is a you tube video that compared the wal mart stuff with the expensive brands and they fared well.

Nalgene poly bottle (the translucent one). Lightweight, large screwtop lid. Mine never leaks. It does tend to save flavorings if you use it for smoothies or sports drinks.

I have had good luck with Platypus water carriers.
Very durable and fold up small when empty. https://www.rei.com/b/platypus/c/wat...-and-treatment |

Just for day hikes, I use Gatorade bottles also. The 20 oz or the 32 oz. They have a wider mouth than a commercial water bottle and they are sturdier. Use them for a while and you can toss them.
For backpacking, I've preferred the Nagalene bottles, especially if you have to attach a water filter system. |
