Those are hot garbage. Stick with an AICS compatible stock or chassis.

Not much info out on this specific model. Seems to be a newer configuration offered by Howa.

It's just a Howa 1500 in Heavy barrel, 24", 308. Quite common.

Brownells was selling just the barreled action for $250.

How much would these take off stocks go for? $100?

??? Analysis paralysis.

Howa has produced the model 1500 for quite a while now. This rifle is simply a Howa 1500 with a heavy 24" barrel. You are basically buying the barreled action at that price. Which people have been buying from Brownell's for years. Brownell's is the exclusive dealer of Howa barreled actions. There's plenty of dope on Howa barrels. Smith and Wesson sold Howa made rifles. Weatherby has been using Howa barreled actions on their Vanguards for a long time as well. Its no secret Howa makes good barrels.

The stock is very basic, it works but its not worth much used. Probably $50 tops. This gun is a great deal just for the barreled action because you dont have to pay a dealer transfer fee if you were to buy the action from Brownell's.

Lucky for them and everyone able to get on this deal. I don't have a Turner's near me so I'm missing out. If the San Carlos store was able to open I'd definitely be all over this deal - we all know how that played out.

As a Howa 1500 owner, I am desperately eager to argue with anyone who says they are substandard in any way. But since it has been sitting in the safe now for years unfired, I can't mount much of a defense for it other than it looks cool.

Range? Really dependent on the ammo. You should be able to lob a bullet out to 1,000 yds with some kind of load. Not sure how accurate it will be, but in theory the .308win is capable of going out to at least a 1,000 yds.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/.308_Winchester

I'll be satisfied if I can get 1"-2" groups at 300 yds.

Ok. Need some help for chassis picks.

MDT LSS XL, or XLR Evolution, or XLR Element?

I'd go with the Oryx like I posted before. Another member got the same response from MDT on their site. Looks to be the same for a good price

I too will be satisfied if my $300 rifle shoots half MOA groups at 300 yards.

I was mainly kidding. But I do have one of these bad boys on order, and Iím hopeful that half MOA is achievable with the right load. The reviews of the stock are not great, but weíll see.

I got one just for the action. Dont even care about the stock that comes with it. I plan to put in an HCR chassis I got for cheap on fleabay. Accurate-Mag makes the chassis. Its their Sport Tact Lite model
https://accurate-mag.com/shop/chassi...hassis-system/

Pairing it with an XLR Tactical stock that I also got for cheap on fleabay.

So you're the one that bought that chassis on ebay for $350. Nice buy.

Ah ok. I think I settled on the xlr Evolution. I dont really like the exposed barrel look. Considering the stock and grip and 200, $550 for the chassis isn't too bad.

I am quite certain my Howa .308 can meet that standard. With me doing the shooting, it is less certain.

I'd be happy with 1.5" at 100 yards. I'm a terrible long range shooter. When I shoot 300 with my AR, I get about an 8 inch group with a 4x optic and M193 as the load.

I need some help with ring heights. I have a 20MOA base, 50mm objective, 30mm tube, what height do I get? I'm planning on getting the Vortex Pro series rings. Been doing some reading and math, but can't be certain. I know I don't need a 20 MOA base for 100-300, but hoping to have the ability to push to 800.

The alternative to the howa is a remy 700. All you need to do than to get the same accuracy is to buy a new barrel, trigger, and bolt....have the bolt worked along with the receiver. That's about $2,000 to $3,000.00 and the remy will shoot almost as good as the howa.

Considering wind issues 8" isn't too bad for that Ammo. If u shoot 77 grain SMKs I bet you'd pull it in to 5". That's a very good group with some wind.

Don't worry about what other people are doing. If the stock fits you, keep it! It's a steal for $300 either way. I'll be using the stock for a few months and then transition. Already blew my fun money on the gun, optics, and mount for the month or so.

I've seen tighter groups, but I do think what I can already do is good enough for me.

That's not terrible. That's honest. Especially on the internet, where every meal is a banquet, every paycheck is a fortune, where everyone buys low and sells high, where beautiful models are rejected due to pointy elbows, where everyone with a DD 214 is former SF, where everyone acquires everything at below retail, where everyone shoots expert, where everyone is behind the velvet rope, where everyone has the inside scoop on everything, and where everyone is really clever, but no one else is.

Look at you, brightening up my day! I'm sure you could put me to shame with the same setup. And I do get things below retail, love SlickDeals. I've never tried a 25x optic before, so let me work with that and get back to you about bragging sub MOA with match grade factory loads

I'm in the same boat. Placed my order / paid in full last Fri 8/9.
Was told that it would take 2-4 weeks for the rifles to came in.
They suppose to call me to come in and start DROS.

I usually run scope rails and rings from TPS Products for my Remington and Savage.

TPS doesnt make a rail for Howa so i'll probably get one from EGW.

I've been wanting to try one of those new ACSS scopes from Primary Arms.

Something like this.
