Code works at Mountainhouse.com but seems you have to buy $100+ to get free shipping.

Even with 30% off, they're usually cheaper on Amazon.

Yup absolutely true.

Beef stroganoff is $29 after 30% off on MH and $25 on amazon. Unless MH doesn't charge tax, its cheaper on Amazon.

Just check and yes, Amazon is cheaper base price for certain stuff, but MH site does not charge tax at the moment.

Even with Amazon adding tax, it's usually still cheaper. Anyone ordering should compare their specific orders between the two places and see who comes out cheaper. Amazon usually wins.

I'm not not telling you want anyone else where or what to buy but if it was only a few bucks difference maybe we/I should try not to buy Everything through Amazon.
I'm not against capitalism but at some point the future their almost-monopoly could potentially backfire on us.

But I actually came into this thread just to say one thing …

Mountain House freeze-dried lasagna with meat (and I'm pretty sure it's real meat, unlike all the a lot of the other competition in the long term foods just use soy protein disguised as meat) is by far the very best freeze-dried type camping / emergency type meal I've ever tasted.
It was like real lasagna (that someone cut up into pieces) once it was cooked correctly.

^^^^Fixed it for you!

I like your Mountain House prices better for sure. The only problem is, that's not the correct prices. At least that's not what Mountain House shows in my cart.

Amazon + tax-free shipping....

Chicken Teriyaki with Rice........$23.66
Chili Mac with Beef..................$21.81
Beef Stroganoff.......................$25.02
Chicken Fried Rice...................$27.99

Total Shipped.........................$98.48+$7.63=$106. 11

Mountain House 30%off-no tax-free shipping

Chicken Teriyaki with Rice.......$25.89
Chili Mac with Beef.................$25.89
Beef Stroganoff.....................$25.89
Chicken Fried Rice.................$24.49

Total Shipped........................$102.16

In your particular sample, it is $3.95 cheaper to order through Mountain House vs Amazon. But for the $3.95 extra, you usually get them delivered next day. It's all up to the individual ordering if it's worth it.

Now add a Breakfast Skillet Can to the order and it becomes cheaper at Amazon for the order.

Amazon + tax-free shipping....

Chicken Teriyaki with Rice........$23.66
Chili Mac with Beef..................$21.81
Beef Stroganoff.......................$25.02
Chicken Fried Rice...................$27.99
Breakfast Skillet......................$26.48

Total Shipped.........................$124.96+$9.68=$134 .64

Mountain House 30%off-no tax-free shipping

Chicken Teriyaki with Rice.......$25.89
Chili Mac with Beef.................$25.89
Beef Stroganoff.....................$25.89
Chicken Fried Rice.................$24.49
Breakfast Skillet....................$36.39

Total Shipped........................$138.55

In this scenario it's cheaper from Amazon by $3.91 plus you get faster shipping. Where Amazon definitely is cheaper is when you only want to order a small amount and not have to spend a minimum of $100 to get the free shipping (especially when they don't offer free shipping with the discounts).

Every order is different. That's why I stated in my earlier post "Anyone ordering should compare their specific orders between the two places and see who comes out cheaper. Amazon usually wins."

Shouldn't these items be tax free as they are food?

Good catch WOODY2. I've always ordered them with other items so never paid attention if everything in the orders were taxed. I just assumed they considered these to be prepared food, which is taxable.

best prices I found on them are when they are at Costco. You can pick them up for 13 to 14 meals for approximately 35 bucks. Regular price I believe it is either 47 or $59 depending on which food product it actually is. Some of the ones with more breakfast cereals and things like that are a bit cheaper.

** GONE **

Just saw this on Amazon for MH Chicken Stew #10 Can: $18.95 (free ship/no tax) from Oregon Homeland Products. Description states "This new unused item was manufactured in 2015 with an expiration date of 2045. This new item has been stored between 55 to 65 degrees."

I can be happy with that discount for something which 'only' has an expiration date of 2045!

Currently shows 4 left in stock (1/16 @10:40 am)
