Fazakerley Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk2
I've posted a few pictures of a Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk2 rifle. This rifle was one of the new arsenal "mummy" wrapped rifles that were sold in the early 1990's. I removed the wrap shortly after I bought it. The No. 9 bayonet came with the rifle. The "UF" code on the receiver is Fazakerley's followed by the year of manufacture and then the serial number (partially shown). A British Broad Arrow on the receiver butt stock band. I think it was the only one I have found on the rifle. Also worthy of note, just ahead of the receiver butt stock band, the hole in the stock for the cross pin attaching the front stock to the rifle. The cross pin in the hole slides through a bracket located on the front side of the receiver butt stock band, The trigger also attaches to this bracket. This butt stock attachment and new attachment of the trigger assembly was part of the Lee Enfield No4 MkII changes over the MkI rifle. Lee Enfield No4. MkII and MkI trigger assembly compared below. On the Lee Enfield No4. MkI, the trigger hung on the trigger guard, not the receiver. This photograph below shows a typical manufacture code scheme found on the rifle's parts...an "F" followed by a two digit number. I've read that it means "Fazakerley" followed by the year of manufacture. The "2" on the bolt head is the bolt head size. Someone put a lot of thought into this when designing the Lee Enfield. You can fix headspace issues as the chamber wears just by using different sized bolt heads. The larger the bolt head number the longer the bolt head. My rifle is still packed with cosmoline; and therefore, remains unfired. I can't tell you how it shoots. I plan on keeping it that way...there are plenty of used Lee Enfield No. 4 rifles out there to shoot, and I own a couple of the shooters.
