I bought my very first bow a few months ago. Since ammo has gone up in price, I wanted something more inexpensive to shoot. I went to my local archery shop and to say that they were less than helpful is an understatement. Their service was poor and their prices were sky high. I ended up getting a Diamond Outlaw from Hunters Friend online. I also picked up a Genesis bow for my two boys to share. We have been out with them a few times and I really suck! But, we are still having a blast. My wife even enjoys shoot the Genesis. Here are a couple of pics.

This thread gives me some hope here. I am switching over from pistol/rifle/shotgun shooting to archery for the winter. I just won't have enough time to get out much this winter, and our local archery range is $60.00 per year for a key and you can go by yourself anytime of day or night. That is CHEAP fun if you ask me. Getting a complete setup is going to be cheap as I just won a Mathews Reezen 6.5 at a dinner, and putting everything I want on the thing is going to be about $400 plus a few more arrows than I have. I already have a dozen arrows, but they are carbon and aluminum and are somewhat under spined. I can't wait to show off my rig when its all complete. I've decided on just doing a whisker biscuit though for the rest because I can do all the adjusting of it at home.

DO make sure your arrows are correctly spined for your draw weight as not only will it be safer and but also more accurate. And stick with one model/spine/brand of arrows for consistent accuracy and precision. |

CA disabled archer permit holder
Due to my rotator cuff impingement I am unable to draw a bow @ 50lbs or even hold the empy bow at arms length on the left so I am now able to finally try archery...I was crushed when I realized I couldn't draw a bow. :-/

Just picked up a new target bow for 2014...Maitland Zeus. Very well designed and engineered. Tested and tuned it Saturday night at Palomo Archery's indoor range in Palo Alto and after all was said and done, I was shooting 1 inch groups at 20 yards when I did my part. Holds even steadier than my 2009 Elite XLR, which was a delight to shoot with a very smooth draw, solid back wall and overall forgiving nature. I've had some shorter axle to axle bows (Bowtech Assassin and Bear Motive 7) but they just don't work for me in target shooting. A longer bow is simple going to be intrinsically more accurate and forgiving of shooter errors. Your experience may vary and if you're hunting, a shorter, faster bow will be more of value for shots taken from 10-50 yards. For what I do, precision and accuracy is key for targets up to 100+ yards.
Cheers and happy shootin'! |

Just got into sticks and strings a little over a year ago.
2013 PSE Stinger: Swapped Whisker Biscuit for a Limbdriver Pro V rest. Then a Limbdriver S-coil damper. Tight Spot quiver. Venom Viper 5-pin (.010) sight. And recently custom string/cable by 60X. Only thing left is the string stop, I may get the Bowrattler just to have upgraded everything. Next is my (technically used) 2011 Hoyt Carbon Element. Fuse ProFire 5-pin sight (.019) and Fuse Ultra rest. 8" Fuse Carbon Hunter stabilizer completes the package. The TightSpot quiver goes on here too Lastly, I've learned to work on/tune my bows. I read several DIY projects on Archery Talk and built them. I managed to combine a vise, press, drawboard, and even a Hooter Shooter into one portable unit. It uses a mitersaw stand, boat winch (drawboard), and trailer jack (press). I used aluminum L and square stock for the adjustable fingers on the press. Here's a video I just made showing it off: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JTXKPMTRY_k |

Meh.. might as well toss mine up here. Bowtech Experience 60# limbs with a set of 70s for whenever. Axcel Armortech Vision HD PRO 5 pin sight with highspeed pins (0.10 size for all), tight spot quiver with offset mount to clear the dovetail and knob on the sight rail, Ripcord Code Red Drop away rest...umm B-stinger 8" Sport hunter Xtreme Stabilizer/damp w/ QD. Those were some test arrows I had cut when I first picked this one up. Still using Gold Tip arrows but now custom fletched with Black(2) and white (1) helical vanes. I think 5575's. Nothing too special. Added the limbsaver split dampeners and pulled the weighted stock "revolvers" off. older pic. |
