I have a different type of question for you guys. I did have my LTC but it expired before I could renew it. It's been a couple years now and I've been very busy with life but I'm ready to get it back. I'm still sorting through information as I'm sure things have changed but any advice for me?
Thank you

The process (now fully-automated) and the shooting course of fire are the only changes.

Start with the Sac Sheriff CCW landing page and read everything, including the links to AB 2103 Compliance Letter.

Then, get the initial app in process here:

thank you for the help. i guess my main concern would be when i went for the interview and if they ask why i let it expire. not sure if it would even be an issue but just trying to plan for any scenario.

if you were doing 18 months on county, it would matter.

Otherwise, life happens and we have to adjust to meet the challenges. You did, and now you’re back.

I actually forgot to renew my permit. I let it expire, and was way past the 2 month grace period to renew.
The only "bad" part is having to go through a brand new application and the whole process, compared to a renewal.
At the interview, the investigator did ask about why it expired, but I think it was more song the lines of personal curiosity (they didn't write any of my explanation of why I forgot down).

If anything, I got my permit in record time compared to when I first got it back some 8 years ago.
8 years ago (IIRC), just to get an initial appointment/interview took about 3 months wait (appointment search to appointment date), then maybe a month or so of waiting for the committee to send notice that application was approved plus FBI background checking, then to take the training course and fingerprinting, then another month of FBI background checking, then another month to nab a final interview and appointment. And if you were lucky, they'd hand you the permit at the final interview. Some had to wait for it in the mail. This was typically a 5 month process, mainly due to initial appointment dueling with others applicants.

This time around, from the day I realized my permit expired to date I got a new permit in hand was just under 2 months.

thank you guys, thats very reassuring. i'm not worried about having to reapply, thats my fault for letting it expire. was just wondering if it would cause issues but looks like it wont.
looking for a new carry weapon ATM so i'll apply just as soon as i find one. if i read correctly, you cant modify until your renewal right? so i figured i would have to put it on there when i apply or wait 2 years.

You can put something down when you apply, and change when you take the course. The guns you qualify with are the ones that ultimately end up on your permit. After that, then you'd need to modify.
