My Grandpa's M1 Garand
It was my first M1 Garand, my Uncle gave it to me after my Grandpa passed away in 1987 when I was in my 20's, it was a mixmaster when I got it, WIN bolt and op rod, unmarked 6-groove barrel with the balance being WWII and Post-War parts, but it shot fine and I hunted deer with it a couple seasons. I got the Garanditis bug a few years after getting my first, started buying M1's from the CMP and joined the GCA as a life member in 1998 when it had less than 1000 members, my Dad who trained on the M1 Garand when he was in the Marine Corps joined in the fun with me, I have a couple of his M1's too.
About 15 years ago I put Grandpa's M1 back to 'as issued" condition after searching for years for a correct barrel that wasn't shot out, but I didn't go as far as an original wood stock set, it's a Boyds set. Couple Notes - 1) The winter safety was on it when my Uncle gave it to me. 2) Although it might look like a 'reweld' receiver it's not. Last edited by MeatyMac; 01-17-2020 at 12:32 PM.. |

Shoulda got my dad one years ago.
He was USCG '54 - '76, and qualified expert pistol & rifle. Starting with hand-me-down Army Garands when he enlisted, to the M-14, to the M-16 at the end, but he always preferred the Garand. I'VE always wanted a Tanker conversion in .308, but I'll need $2 grand laying around with nothing to do, before I get mine...
