Default Inheriting gun from out of state

I know this is the wrong section for the type of gun, but this section gets browsed more than the shotgun forum. My grandpa just passed away (Pennsylvania) and has 2 shotguns that would potentially come to me if there wasn't a huge hassle involved. Can anyone tell me exactly what would be required from both parties to make this happen? One is a SxS and the other maybe a pump. I'm not sure on the brands or models. Do they just get shipped to an FFL near me and I can sign for them?

Must go thru ffl if not bequeathed to you. Ships to ca ffl with letter saying they are yours with senders ID and you go in and do paperwork. You cannot get them otherwise. Find an ffl near you knowledgeable about this. Intrafamilial interstate transfer.

Not a gun question, but a law question - moved.

And, because the relationship is correct - grandparent to grandchild - both Feds and CA allow the transfer to skip the FFL.

PC 27545 is the CA requirement for non-licensed persons to use an FFL for transfers; PC 27875 is the exception for inheritance to immediate family. If that works, ship or pick up the guns, file OPLAW with DOJ.

But edgerly779 points out a possible problem: if grandfather did not explicitly leave the guns to you, you didn't inherit them, someone else did, according to the will, if any, and PA law.

If that were the case this would be an interstate transfer, not an inheritance, and the CA FFL is required - figure out which one is convenient for you, and talk to them about how they want the guns shipped and documentation requirements.

For the FFL route, on your part, DROS fee, transfer fee, 10-day wait, Firearms Safety Certificate, safety device or safe affidavit - all that stuff is required.

I've been saying that for years ...

There is no value at all complaining or analyzing or reading tea leaves to decide what these bills really mean or actually do; any bill with a chance to pass will be bad for gun owners.

The details only count after the Governor signs the bills.

Ah, there it is. No, they were not explicitly left to me. I guess it would be possible still, but too much hassle on their end. Thanks, Librarian.

To much hassle?

How hard is it to put them in a and drop them off at the post office?

Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Or just drop at FFL to pack and ship.
