Latest info

ROUND THREE BEGINS OCTOBER 27, 2022!!

Just got this email.

Round 3 of CMP 1911 orders is currently open. Arguably one of the most iconic handguns ever produced, the M1911 served as the standard issue handgun for the U.S. Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. The single-action, semi-automatic pistol uses .45 ACP rounds and is comprised of a comfortable, basic design. View the details, guidelines for purchasing, order forms and pricing on the CMP website. Only mail orders will be accepted and customers will be contacted in the sequence provided by the Random Number Generator. Only ONE CMP 1911 order form packet per customer, per envelope, may be submitted. If you have already purchased a 1911 whether from the RGN system or Auction Site, you are NOT eligible to purchase another 1911.
Visit our CMP 1911 Website

Get a head start on your holiday shopping! Visit our E-Store for stocking stuffers! We have shooting accessories, publications, memorabilia and ammo! We now have .30-06 ammo available for a limited time!

Thank You for your support of the CMP!

LET ROUND 2 BEGIN!!!

Status of the CMP 1911s, 1/29/2018:

The CMP has been authorized to receive 8,000 1911 type pistols from the United States Army.

The 1911s have been received by the CMP. A complete inventory will be conducted over the course of this week. The pistols will then be securely stored until the Army-approved 1911 building and armory infrastructure is completed. That completion is anticipated to be approximately 60 days from now. Once the 1911 armory is completed, inspection, grading, repair, and ultimately test firing of the pistols will begin. (Please be aware that the CMP was led to believe that we were ready to move forward, but three weeks ago facility requirements were changed, and we are now fulfilling those requirements.)

The CMP 1911 order packet will be posted 90 days prior to the order acceptance date and opening sales date. No orders will be accepted prior to that date. Please visit www.thecmp.org, click on the Sales icon then 1911 Information, for the latest. CMP customer service has been inundated with calls and emails concerning the 1911s and no further information is available at this time.

The CMP will keep everyone posted as we move through this process.

CMP 1911 Information
To all CMP constituents:

The CMP Board of Directors has discussed at length how the sales of 1911s would be handled, if the CMP were to ever receive them from the United States Army.

Some preliminary decisions:

Decisions concerning the grade and pricing of the 1911s will not be made until inspection has occurred of a substantial quantity which will take an estimated 150 days post receipt.
All laws pertaining to the sale of 1911s by CMP will be strictly obeyed.
Potential purchasers will have to provide to CMP a new set of documents exhibiting: 1) proof of U.S. Citizenship, 2) proof of membership in a CMP affiliated club, 3) proof of participation in a marksmanship activity, 4) a new form 2A with notary, 5) successful completion of a NICS background check, 6) a signed copy of the 01 Federal Firearms License in which the 1911 will be transferred to.
The CMP customer will be required to complete a form 4473 in person and successfully complete another NICS check by the recipient FFL holder before the pistol can be transferred.
Qualified CMP customer will only be allowed to purchase one 1911 per calendar year.
No 1911s available in the CMP stores, or on line, only mail order sales.
CMP will set the date in which it will accept orders for the 1911s. The date will be posted to the world.
Orders will only be accepted via mail order delivery.
Orders will only be accepted post marked on the date or after, no early orders.
Once CMP receives 10,000 orders, customer names will be loaded into the Random Number Generator.
The Random Number Generator will provide a list of names in sequence order through a random picking process to CMP.
Customers will be contacted in the sequence provided by the Random Number Generator.
When the customer is contacted a list of 1911 grades and pricing options that are available will be offered for selection of one.
As CMP proceeds down the sequenced list less grade and pricing options will be available. Again, this done completely random.

Problem remains there is no Secretary of the Army, if I remember correctly, the legislation said that is who needed to transfer the pistols.

Nothing there to see anything that would lead me to believe sooner than later.

Still a couple years away at best in my opinion, if it happens at all. Do not hold your breath in other words.

If they are 50 years old what does the Exemption status have to do with it?
They are C&R and are legal to ship to an 01 FFL in Kommiefornica for sale or transfer, OR better yet directly to most of us now living in a free state especially where your 03 FFL will actually MEAN something!

Yiu need to join a Cmp affiliated club and fill out a package of info. Get it done now so you're ready to own a ww2 1911. Probably all correct and in great shape. Cmp is the bomb. This is going to happen.

Will you need a COE for these? Have been putting off getting mine to go with my 03. Hoping to pick up a cheap receiver when the Philippine Garands come in.

03 FFL or COE wont matter much for these except you can skip the 10 day wait if you have both. But they still must go through 01 FFL unless you go to Anniston and pick them up using your 03 FFL.

Why not be optimistic?

Obama held up the transfer of the 1911's and imposed some conditions CMP couldn't agree to. He's out of the picture. Yes, he played politics with historical guns and also had a mean streak he hid well but he was and remains a petty hypocritical individual with a grudge against gun owners and the military.

These guns are about a year out. Maybe even the M1 Carbines will return one day, all 700,000 of them. I bought one of the Korean garands last year from Cmp. It is an excellent piece of hardware, and even though the stock is a bit rough the gun shoots as well as my McCoy.

Garands and Carbines will once again flow from CMP, and at prices which won't break the budget.

Isn't the Acting Secretary of the Army the same thing? If so he should be able to sign the documents that allows the transfer of the 1911s.

some gravy to the bird-

"Moving past the 1911s, the legislation sets the stage for the question posed by the looming withdrawal of thousands of soon-to-be surplus M9 and M11 9mm pistols, replaced by the new M17 and M18 pistols adopted under the Army’s Modular Handgun System."

The stars have aligned. This is another win for the Trumpites a dem pres would never allow the sale of pistols through CMP.
The only problem I see is that there will be far more buyers than guns so some type of waiting list or lottery will be set up.

But, if a museum curator asks for the M9 and M11 to be listed, and the ATF approves (MAGA!), then it is game on!

I have various commercial M9 and a W. German P228, but I would be all over these GI guns.

The epitome of the entitlement mentality. They should do what the DCM did, One Per LIFETIME, then there would be plenty to go around. NO, I won't be buying any. Already have my 1911A1 in the stable so someone can have mine.

Define post war? Post WW2...yes, post Korean conflict, some say it was a war...yes also. Vietnam...no. The garand was forged in 1956.

Anyway, it's pretty beat looking but it shoots just as good as my McCoy. My two Cmp specials don't shoot as well and they're new guns. They look fantastic if your into new garands.

Well you said you bought one of the Korean Garands. Kinda confusing with all the talk of Korean Garands that got blocked from Importation.
Thought maybe you thought you got one of those ,which would not be true

Can you order from the CMP with just an 03FFL? I.e., no membership in any club, no shooting scores, and no proof of US citizenship required?

I would love to get one (or even 12) but it's been a long time since CMP gave away really amazing deals, compared to what's available on the open private market.
Just because we the taxpayers of America have already paid for the guns to be manufactured, shipped overseas, and shipped back again and all that time paying for the maintenance and storage =$$$ , doesn't necessarily mean we're going to get any deals like you would hope.
The CMP organization needs to make money to pay all its employees and keep their program running.

I think they might also consider the fact that it would hurt other US-based 1911 manufacturers currently selling their product, if they sell tens of thousands a year at only $200.

But what do I know. I got my fingers crossed for $200 a pop.

No you still have to follow all of their guidelines on the web page
