I'm stuck overseas while my wife has to move from California to Maryland. The military won't ship firearms, ammo, or her wine, so she's driving. I need ideas to keep them from getting beat up. I'm looking at the BRONCBOX but that's a lot of money, I'm hoping you professionals had some ideas? Looking at 4 bolt rifles, a few AR's, and a few pistols.

Drive the ammo and wine. Take the guns to an FFL and ship them to an FFL at the new duty station. They'll be there waiting for her and don't have to worry about them being stolen on the trip.

If she decides to drive, New York should be avoided. While not on a direct path, someone on an extended drive across the country might decide to take in the city. That could be trouble with firearms in the vehicle.

Not sure on the cost. Contact a few different FFLs and explain the situation, ask for a quote. Some may be willing to give you a military discount. You'll also need to contact a dealer in MD to find on that will recieve them.

If she is coming through Phoenix she can drop them off with me and I can pack and ship them. I have a few extra large long gun boxes here. I can ship the bolt guns, split the ARs and ship the lowers only to save freight, and ship the pistols. $20 first transfer, $5 for each additional gun, $20 for boxes and materials. Shipping I would have to look up. Probably no more than $100 before optional insurance. I have to play with the boxes to get them under the UPS oversize premium rate. That would be my Calguns/Mil/stressed wife rate.

usps the long guns to yourself at new location. Handguns fly with to new location. Handguns must go second day from ca so maybe see audiophile for shipping those.

Why not put the rifles in rifle socks and/or bubble wrap, and wrap with a moving blanket if you don't have boxes. Unless she drives like Jeff Gordon, how beat up can it get? She can buy those cheaply at Harbor Freight. Use the ammo to box it in to a corner space of the vehicle.

I would be more worry about the wine if she drives crazy lol.

Now if you are worry about being stolen while parked in a hotel parking lot while she sleeps, that's another story. It all depends on what is she driving and what area she plans on overnight. If she has those items with her, maybe pony up to a better hotel in a decent area. If she is driving an U-haul, that'll get plenty attention from opportunist always. If she can take pit stops at a friend/family's place along the way, that would be the best. If she can rough it and sleep in the car, truck stops are actually not that bad, park in front and in the lighted area if all possible.
