Another attempt at National Reciprocity
https://youtu.be/4Goghnivqy4
Jared just reported that Rep Richard Hudson just submitted another HR38: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-.../house-bill/38 Have some doubts it will go anywhere considering the current 116th congress. Now has 90 cosponsors. Will update here and there.

Yup. Last year was the time to pass this. Instead they just fiddled with their *****. Thanks, GOP. This bill is DOA.

A reciprocity bill has been introduced and not moved or failed every year for the last 7 or 8 years. I see no reason this year will be any different.

The difference is that this year it won't even get out of committee, much less get to the floor to be voted on. OR should I say voted down...

Due to what the former president of the NRA said re. it coming up in Oct in the Senate, my GUESS is that all the unexpected drama involved with Kavanaugh knocked it off of their agenda. IMO, they made the right decision (if that's the case).

pass? probably not. In as another bargaining chip in the game? More likely. Everything counts for something, there's always back scratching going on, support my bill I'll support yours next time, etc.

This is probably just so that Repubs in 2020 can say, "We tried to get it passed, but the Dems wouldn't even let it come up for a vote. Vote for the Republicans!"
As long as there's not another convenient mass shooting just a few months before the election (), this could work and help our side. But hopefully, we'll get relief from the fed courts, esp SCOTUS, before the summer before 2020 Nov.

Yea, this won't move even if it did have the votes. Pelosi will not let it come to the floor. It's worth noting the Reciprocity bill in 2011 I believe had almost 30 Dems who voted Yea. That was a more watered down version of last years HR38 (weird that this years and last years bill have the same number). Text isn't out for this bill but it's likely the same as last year. Only hope for Reciprocity to pass is some big package deal with concessions that peels off enough Dems and not lose any GOP support. One thing which may give a big boost is if SCOTUS strikes down may-issue. |
