Default Old nickle

Can a old, factory nickle plated, pistol that is flaking off be stripped and blued?
Or, any better ideas?

Yes. It's a pretty easy task. The issue is usually by the time nickle plating is flaking off there is usually pitting present which could cause problems when bluing. If it's a valuable gun it might be worth it; if not maybe try cerakote, NP3, etc.
