Shootin' inside my Living Room...what are your recommendations?
If I want to practice shooting "something" indoors...what is the easiest/cheapest route to go about doing this?
I'm thinking airsoft pistol with target trap? |

get a laser trainer for your real guns, unless it is the thing shooting out you like.
you could use a smoke machine or something so the laser beam will be visible instead of just the dot for an instant. |

I can't speak from experience but I was watching Guns & Ammo TV the other day and they had some BB/Pellet guns that seemed pretty cool. They were modeled after real guns and they said that they had almost exact weight and feel to the real deal. I was thinking about getting something like that too. I don't remember the manufacturer though but when I tried to google it there are actually several similar. I'm not sure what is a good brand or not, I might have to see if I can find that episode online or something.

Cardboard box
Add padding- Old carpet works well Carpet shops have free samples Many airsoft pistols have small amounts of energy So maybe even an old towel will both stop them and prevent bounce back

They have replica airsoft pistols with blowback that simulates recoil. Many of the popular guns are replicated almost exactly. For example, here is a CZ Shadow 2.
They're pretty accurate at competition distances. https://www.evike.com/products/92460/ Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk |

You can make your own pellet trap out of a big box that is the size you like... a Savior Equipment Classic short (24") rifle case shipping box is the one I will use next. Typically stuff with magazines or whatever is around... tape 8.5"x11" paper targets to it and neon circle stickers... shoot it till it is caving in the front and duct tape it... till it seems too full of BBS... they last forever. I use that more than a steel trap that I bent up pretty good the first few times I used it with various air guns. I have the most fun with a Steel Force that has a foregrip weapon light and Holosight on it. Shooting in the dark with the light / holosight can be fun. As long as you are a decent shot and you don't mind confetti and BB's on your carpet... lock up the pets.

don't even need a store bought target trap. cardboard box with a towel lining the backstop.
easy and cheap. and you can most likely re-use some of the BB's as it won't deform as much from hitting the towel vs a metal target trap setup. just make sure the towel is of decent quality. don't use a shop rag and not expect some BB's to make it through after a while as the fibers come apart.

I got the stack of textbooks idea from Mythbusters stack of phone books (I believe).
Had some G.E. textbooks/workbooks. Give it a good 8 inches worth, should stop .22 LR, no problem, so it will surely work on pellets. Also they sell pellet traps. Last edited by WiddleCabinet ma’am; 09-08-2019 at 4:05 PM.. |

Find a better grade spring loaded airsoft pistol modeled after a real pistol in a style you like. The cardboard box with padding is a good idea as a pellet trap. I have gone away from co2 powered air guns just for the reason that when the seals have gone bad which will happen finding someone who can reseal them can be a problem from a time, distance and cost perspective.

I know Sig makes exact replicas of all their guns, exactly for the purpose of practice with plastic bbs. They fit in your holster, and the mags are the same, plus I think they aren't even more then 100 bucks or so

What are you training with this gadget? Trigger control? You can do that pretty effectively in dry fire. And the majority of accuracy issues come from preingnition push and/or recoil management. Neither of which this will help. Only live fire training will help train these issues. Sight picture acquisition, transitions, indexing... all this can be effectively trained with straight dry fire. No gizmos needed. Even movement drills, entries and exits are better trained in dry fire. Then live fire is used for confirmation and to put all these together. Also for accuracy as I mentioned. Practical Accuracy, Doubles, Criss Cross are all great live fire drills to do. Just my $.02 Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk |

You can dry fire all you want, but you have no way of knowing whether POA=POI... perfect practice makes perfect.

We used to shoot CB and BB caps from the 22s into a wooden backstop in the fireplace over at my friends house back in the day. From the couch. 58E9A36A-5D45-4AAA-B479-F155B3D4FC79.jpg After that we would bust out the revolvers. Then we would throw something softer in front of the wood and fire those plastic 38 bullets from the primer powered plastic cases. Works good but not the most accurate things. |

Kid's and I use NERF Machine guns. Maybe not what you had in mind but we have a blast. Wife, girls and dog don't like it as much.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the training method the old fast draw guys used to use.
Wax bullets, of course you need more room than an airsoft shooting range but you are able to use the same handgun you would normally use... so you get your same trigger and your normal exact same sights rather than dealing with whatever the airsoft training firearm will give you (which is not anything like that gun you carry). of course you have to be always cautious because even though it's only being pushed by a primer and it's relatively soft wax, it could still hurt someone. It works better for revolvers you can make it work in a semi auto pistol you just have to rack the slide each time. I also heard you can just use those foam ear plugs instead of wax and although they might not shoot as straight or as far it'll give you something being pushed by just a primer and no gunpowder. ( Skip ahead to the 23:00 mark if you just want to see the wax hitting a target.) https://youtu.be/1BbrmDP6upY . Last edited by sealocan; 09-10-2019 at 2:53 PM.. |

Now that you mention it, I've got my Dad's Crack Shot, which is one of the guns we used for this, in the basement right now along with a few bricks of Colibri. Maybe, I'll bust them out ....and freak out wife and kids!

hang some moving blankets for your backstop and use a cardboard box to catch the BB's when they fall, place your target in front of the blankets and fire away, only use for Airsoft........ not real guns ok.......... you can get cheap moving blankets at Home D or Harbor F.

Airsoft is a good way to go. I have something similar to this trap. BB's will escape on occasion.
https://www.amazon.com/AirSoft-Shoot...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== In the backyard I use Tactrainer targets. You could have a setup indoors, but those BB's get everywhere. My wife would have a fit if I did this in the house.

For low powered airguns you can just hang a proper tarp (like proper tarpaulin). You string the short ends like shower curtains and hang it in a 'j" shape. Put your targets on good quality thick cardboard and the tarp will just catch the pellets and dump them in the bottom of the "j". We did this with 10 meter guns all the time. Sometimes you need to sew a pocket and place a rod to help form the "j", but depends on the tarp.

My recommendation?
Don't shoot your eye out! I made a stop from a piece of steel that I bought at the Home Depot, I bent it like a reverse ski jump, then I encased that in between some 1/2 inch pine board, the pellets hit the back then curve down and towards the front, never had a single one come out of the catch. YMMV Rich

Yeah, well, that was .......something. I think the bullet splatter from the .300 Win Mag is actually the least of his worries. When Meredith sees this, he is never going to get laid again. Divorce won't help him, cuz she is going to eat his balls for breakfast. Fun video, though.
