Default Southwest Pistol League (SWPL) - SCSA / USPSA Steel Challenge (Every 4th Saturday)

The legendary Southwest Pistol League (SWPL) holds a monthly Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA) competition every fourth (4th) Saturday just 30 miles North of DTLA in Sylmar, CA.

What is Steel Challenge?

The Steel Challenge is a speed shooting competition governed by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA) that consists of eight standardized stages with steel targets, ranging in size from 10″ (25 cm) round plates to 18×24″ (45×60 cm) square plates. Competitors are scored solely by the time it takes them to complete each stage, and the match winner is the competitor with the lowest overall time. You can choose to shoot the match with a centerfire handgun, a rimfire handgun, a rimfire rifle, or a Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC). The courses are standardized and the same at every match. But, that doesn?t make the Steel Challenge easy. You?ll want to go fast?and the Steel Challenge will let you go as fast as you can miss.

Stages
  1. 5 To Go
  2. Showdown
  3. Smoke & Hope
  4. Accelerator
  5. The Pendulum
  6. Roundabout
*Due to range limitations, we're only able to offer 6:8 stages available. Outer Limits, and Speed Option will not be included in the COFs.

Match Fee: $25 (Non-Members), $20 (Members), and $15 (Juniors)

Great match this past Saturday!

I arrived shortly after 8:30AM, and was wrapped up with the six stages just before 11AM. I'm not complaining, but I'm surprised that more people don't take advantage of these...

Yea, the club is working on adding new covers to the lower ranges, but like anything where free labor is involved, it takes time. I didn't it was too bad, but I was in and out before lunch.

Definitely, another awesome match, and you're really couldn't have asked for better weather. It was nice and overcast with a slight drizzle here and there, but nothing that negatively impacting the shooting.

I was in, and out with two guns with our 5 gun squad before 12PM!
