Default HK 416 .22 lr

Well I was doing some cleaning and I found an ammo can that I had forgotten about which contained around 1K of CCI .22lr. and other mix of random .22lr boxes. Since I didn't have a .22lr anymore (I sold my only one a few years back), I realized I had to buy one. So I decided on the HK 416 .22lr and...

I love it!!

It ate up every single round I fed it. Not one jam, which I was very shocked considering I had a S&W MP15-22 that would constantly jam with the ammo I had on hand. Which is why I wanted to steer away from a semi auto rimfire.

Plus I think it looks beautiful! It doesn't feel like a cheap toy. Got the "HK" logo on it (I know they don't actually manufacture it, but it's still nice seeing it on there). The only thing I cannot stand is the little stub on the pistol grip. I will most likely sand it down.

IMG_0612.jpg

I am hooked on .22lr now. Thinking of my next purchase, either a CZ 457, Tippmman M4-22, or Ruger Wrangler....maybe i'll just have to get all three!

Which one do you think I should go for first? I am thinking the CZ since I would like a bolt action .22lr.

You should definitely get one! Before they decide to stop manufacturing these for whatever reason.

I still kick myself for not picking up a Sig 522 for $400 back in 2015.

Default HK 416 .22 lr

FYI Hughes Precision makes a thread adapter specifically for the HK (umarex) 416 2 piece barrel that’ll give you standard 1/2 x 28 threads out front if you ever want to put any muzzle accessories on it besides the factory included one.

They are made under contract.
H&K licensing Umarex (Walther) to make it for them.

Stops in manufacturing have occurred due to breakdowns in contract/license renewal negotiations.

Umarex is also licensed (Colt, Hammerli) or has been licensed (Beretta, IWI, S&W) by other manufacturers to make .22LR clones of their products.

Exactly right. Never know when they stop making them.

I regret not getting a Sig 522 since they're no longer manufactured. Maybe one day they will bring them back.

What do the HK 416 CA versions go for new? I haven't seen them in awhile.
Still mad at myself for not getting one on Black Friday 2020.
Thanks!

I got mine for 499 before dros and taxes.

I'm sure if you look around you can get it for cheaper, but for me it was at my local gun store, that is less than 5 miles away. The convenience was worth it.

I regret not getting a Sig 522 so much. I remember I had the opportunity to buy one for $400.

I had an Mp-15 22 and my uncle has the HK. The SW jammed so many times while my uncle's HK ran flawlessly. We shot around 600 rnds that day and i lost count how many times mine jammed, failed to extract, etc. Sold it and bought a Ruger SR 22

None would be my choices..But if I had to choose from just those three..It would be the CZ..I would skip the Tippman and the Wrangler for sure..If a 15 22 style rifle is a option for you..There are much better choices than the Tippman in my opinion..I have never even bought a factory built AR22 and will not..I prefer to assemble them myself..Stay away from the poser SW 15-22.. The proprietary design of them is enough reason alone too..

Spend the money on some quality stuff..If the day ever comes to part with them, if they are quality to start with..They will appreciate over time, junk will only depreciate..Take it from an old fella who has made the mistakes when he was younger,LOL

I had one and I didn't like it.

Too much polymer and it would jam up on a lot of the ammo that this gun ate up. I prefer this rifle to the SW. This has not jammed once.

Same experience with me. Maybe the MP-15-22s are a lot better now but if they're still all polymer and feel like a toy, i'll pass.

Have both and the SW is the Performance Center model. The HK just feels better and the heft is nicer. All the dedicated AR22s leave something on the table but there is something to not switching things around, grab rifle, ammo and go.

The HK has one of the best grips going. It's built well and so far, very reliable. I wish I had bought several. Maybe not in a 22 mag or 17 HMR but if they ever brought it out in 17HM2 I'd buy one just because no one else buys the ammo and it sits around everywhere. Buy enough to last a lifetime and there you go.

I wisj it was as easy as a barrel replacement

Thanks! And sorry for kinda hi-jacking your thread.
Came down to Vegas for a couple of weeks so won’t pick it up until 9/9 or 9/10.
Looking for a good deal on a Romeo 5 if anyone has a lead on a good price!

Yup. I owned a Sig 522 Commando and it ran like a top, smooth as silk. It was designed to replicate Sig’s other rifles in form and function for training purposes and you can feel the build quality. Only sold it because my son got sick & we had hefty medical bills.

Currently own a CZ 457 and it is outstanding as well.

Default Tippmann Arms!

I started shooting Steel Challenge RFRO earlier this year. I started with my trusted 10/22 but then I saw the Tippmann Arms M4-22 Elite at my LGS. They also had the HK and the S&W. The S&W felt like a plastic toy and the HK was overpriced in my opinion. The Tippmann swings well and is nicely balanced due to the fluted barrel and almost everything is mil-spec. The controls felt the closest to an AR-15. The handguard is metal, not plastic like the S&W. Only upgrade I did was to get a larger ambidextrous charging handle from Resilient Arms. TA all the way!

Yeah that Tippmann looks super nice, but I’m going to be casually plinking away with my HK. $399.99 less $50.00 plus tax at Sportsmen’s.
I did have to wait close to a year though for it to be in stock.

I had one before I moved into small space. Outstanding, most accurate 22 rifle I’ve ever owned and at 73 I’ve been around awhile. I remember shooting at 50 yds at ASR and I could hit SMALL hanging targets just about 10 for 10.
