JD Machine billet upper/lower set
DPMS BCG
DPMS LPK
MOE grip
PRS stock
Troy extended rail
PRI low profile gas block

Left to get:
Buffer/tube/spring
JP Cooley brake
VLTOR modpod
Black Hole Weaponry barrel (still trying to decide between 18" and 20", light profile or standard profile)
Optic (TA11E or TA55A)

BHW said they'll run my barrel around mid-January. I need to decide on length and profile by Monday. I'm thinking probably their lighter profile. Can't decide between 18" and 20".

Sent from my Galaxy S II. Please overlook any typos.

Does your mag catch latch catch on the side of your lower? When I install mine there is a little play to it so when i am pressing it down to catch the bolt it would hit the CMMG lower on that point coming out, does yours not do the same?

Does it hit where the red circle is

Thanks for the tread guys. Here is what I put on order today. Buying two of everything because my father in law and I are going on this adventure together:

Magpul Industries PRS AR-10 Precision Adjustable Stock Black SR25 7.62 NATO
Command Arms Interchangeable Pistol Grip
DPMS Lower Receiver Parts Kit
DPMS Buffer DPMS LR-308
MagPul PRS Extended Recoil Pad
Vltor BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 Medium
DPMS Buttstock Assembly DPMS A2 style

Just need a stripped lower, a few mags, and maybe a nice trigger to finish off the lower.

Now it's time to plan the upper. Decisions, decisions.....

Update 1/12/12

Finished off the lowers.

DPMS lower
Magpul 10/20 Pmags
Tried the Radlock but it does not fit well. I'll go back to the bullet button that came with the lower.

P.S. building two. One for me and one for my step father

Update 2/11/12

We have parts. Updates to follow.

Need a little help guys, so I bought a stripped lower from a fellow calgunner and it came with the bolt catch pre installed, there is no tension on the bolt catch - is it supposed to be like that? I am assuming no but I wanted to get confirmation from people who have 308 platforms already.

It almost seems like the buffer isnt big enough, can anyone give me some confirmation or help with this?

Hopefully once I get this resolved I can post up my specs!

The Noveske rifles are Armalite AR10 pattern. Do you already have a 308 and if so, what is it?

Default Double Barrels

Received my DPMS SASS barrels. Bummer that they need to be used with the more expensive DPMS gas block. Oh well.

Double barrel

There is a spring loaded buffer that forces the bolt catch down (releases the bolt) The idea being that while the gun is cycling rounds from the magazine, the bolt catch is held out of the way by that sprung buffer. If your bolt catch flops around loosely, I would guess the buffer and/or spring weren't installed.

Hope that helps

anyone know of a brake with an outside diameter of about .75" ? ive been searching and all of the brakes ive been finding have an outside diameter of about .90-1" ? my rainier barrel is about .73" just before the threads.... im finishing up ordering everything for my .308 build, i have a feeling im going to have to get it machined to fit... and what say you about Fulton armory Titan chrome BCG's?

and sorry for the crappy cell phone pic, its coming along nicely, MEGA upper and lower, Magpul CTR, VLTOR tube, MIAD grip, and rainier 16" barrel. coming in the mail is the PRI CF handguard, MEGA trigger ( having second thoughts on this after a thread the other day) and an Aimpoint pro

You want the entire brake to be .75", or you want the back of the brake to be .75" to match your barrel? JP makes their brakes for .75 diameter. Their website shows most of their stuff is out of stock, but call first....they've got more in stock that hasn't made it to the website yet. Just installed mine today.

Speaking of that, pardon the crappy cell pics but here's the progression of my AR308!

Bought it off a Calgunner like this....

Then sold the barrel/stock/FH and stripped it down to this....

Add a PRS and wait 2 months for my barrel from Black Hole Weaponry....

Add in a Kies adjustable gas block and a JP large profile tactical compensator.....

All that's left is the Geiselle SSA-E and an optic! (Planning on a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP MRAD in a BOBRO mount) As is obvious from the pictures, I've only got one PRS right now. Ordering another one this paycheck. Also, I'll be swapping the Larue bipod back and forth between the rifles as needed. There are some other small parts I'll be adding...scope mounted level, rifle mounted angle indicator, probably eventually a monopod, etc.

EDIT: Realized my post didn't make sense, as I was referencing shared parts with my SDM-R, which I did not post (as it's not .308). So yeah....I have a SDM-R that shares the bipod, and I currently only have one PRS between the two of them which will be rectified soon.

This concerns me since my DPMS SASS barrel is stamped 7.62x51.

Your thoughts?

You should always contact the manufacturer to find out if you can. When I contacted DPMS about this before, they said I could shoot .308 in their 7.62X51 stamped barrels. The thing I do, is I check the headspacing with a .308 field gauge. If the bolt closes on a .308 field gauge, DO NOT fire .308 out of it.

But I don't think you'll have a problem. I have yet to find a DPMS 7.62X51 stamped barrel that would actually take a 7.62X51 headspace gauge. They headspace nicely with .308 gauges though.

Let us know how it comes out.

That video is for roller-delayed actions.

DPMS needs to get their nomenclature straight. The barrels are marked 7.62x51, but their website FAQ says they only chamber in .308 Winchester. The SASS product page says 7.62x51, and the info page (here: http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=1999) says 7.62x51/.308. The barrel page (http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/product...=4865&cat=1763) is titled "18" .308 SASS Barrel Fluted", but says it's chambered in 7.62x51.

Easy answer: Call them and ask.

Cool thanks guys. I called DPMS and spoke with Jason in their tech department. He said .308 is fine as long as I'm shooting American made brass. He said do NOT shoot that cheap Russian stuff in .308 caliber.

Hey SR-71 BLACKBIRD. YHM doesn't sell free float tubes for AR10/LR-308's. So unless it's something new they just came out with, they won't fit.

Also, I'd be careful using that receiver vise. That vise is made for working on sights/optics and for cleaning, not for barrel work. I've heard many stories of people cracking their uppers when tightening the barrel nuts down using that vice, so be careful.

The guys at SBR said this one is illegal in CA DPMS. But they sell a different model that is legal. Give SBR a call for more information. I figured if they are selling them they must be legal. The only difference I can notice between mine and the one above is that it does not have a panther stamped in the lower.

It's probably legal because the lower is coming directly from DPMS with a bullet button and a 10 round magazine.

Found out why. Copied from CA assault weapons ban list.

AR-15 Series Weapons
American Spirit
USA Model
Armalite
AR 10 (all)
M15 (all)
Golden Eagle
Bushmaster
XM15 (all)
Colt
Law Enforcement (6920)
Match Target (all)
* AR-15 (all)
Sporter (all)
Dalphon
B.F.D.
DPMS
Panther (all)
Eagle Arms
M15 (all)
EA-15 A2 H-BAR
EA-15 E1

It's legit because it's not a panther lower.

Just a heads up for you. The holes in the Fulton Armory barrel nut are a different spacing. None of the other barrel nut wrenches will work on them, so you're going to need to buy an adjustable spanner wrench to tighten them up.

Also, me personally, I wouldn't risk trying to use that vise block to do barrel work. I would just spend the extra $40 and get the DPMS 308 Receiver Claw. That's just my opinion.

Thanks again lwbyo1. I have a few things on back order at Midway. I'll just tack on the receiver claw.

I have a few 1/4 inch sheet metal plates I can trim up, and a few punches I can sacrifice to fab up a barrel nut wrench. Thanks for the heads up.

For the love of god people.....there is a fixed list of lowers that are illegal. It's been fixed for a long time. IF IT IS NOT ON THE LIST, IT'S OFF LIST.

http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Fi...listed_by_name

The law doesn't tell you what's legal, it tells you what is ILLEGAL. It's not like DOJ publishes a monthly update on what lowers are "legal in California right now".

I don't mean to be an @ss, but someone asks this question every couple days. "Hey, any word on if the FS2000 is California legal?" Well, if it's not on the list, it can be made so by going featureless or grabbing a bullet button. Go read the list. :P

Rainier arms 16" barrel
MIAD grip
MBUS sights
MEGA trigger
PRI Delta handguard
Fulton Armory Titan chrome BCG

( I know the sights are on backwards, was so excited i got my handguard in the mail today i just threw them on and spaced out that they were backwards lol )

Range report soon to come!

Almost-Final Update!

I've got my PRS and my Geiselle SSA-E installed, as well as my BOBRO mount in. All that's left is one major piece and a couple minor flourishes; I pick up my Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP MIL/MIL from a buddy on the 29th, and then I plan on slapping a Magpul RVG on it and grabbing an extra 10/20 PMAG to complement the Cproducts 10rd mag.

I *might* swap out grips eventually. I like the MIAD with the index/middle finger rib, and I like a grip I've only had for airsoft guns but have seen on actual guns....airsoft version was called a "SPR Grip", and it's basically a kinda fat pistol grip with a thumb shelf.

Anyways, I digress. Here she is.

Receiver: JD Machine billet upper/lower matching set
BCG: DPMS
Stock: Magpul PRS (308 version)
CH: VLTOR Gunfighter
PG: Magpul MIAD
Trigger: Geiselle SSA-E
Optic Mount: BOBRO Precision Optic Mount
Optic (pick up 2/29): Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP MRAD
Barrel: Black Hole Weaponry 20" 3 polygonal rifled stainless steel 308B (standard profile, satin finish)
Handguard: Troy MRF 308 13.8" quad rail
Foregrip: Magpul RFG (Backwards for my personal ergos, to be replaced with RVG)
Brake: JP Large Profile Tactical Compensator
Bipod: Larue/Harris 9-13" LM-S and LT706 QD Swivel Mount Combo (this is LT's one piece chassis)

It is called an SPR grip because it is made by Sierra Precision Rifles. I like them on target guns.
