Not sure if this has been posted but you can now use WEGC for renewal and intial qualifications.

Did you interview the same day?

Mine was sept 14 hope it’s that quick too. Knowing my work it will take a while to get the letter back.

Although it's a good idea to get as much training in, it's not required/needed beforehand.

Once you submit your application and have your interview, you'll take a 6 hr class at SBSD.

Much can be learned by studying the IA’s website...like
Quote:
Range Qualification
Employees Resources will contact you to schedule your firearms safety course date. Penal Code Section 26165, requires all CCW permit holders to attend a mandatory 8-hour training course before issuance of a new CCW permit (for these forms please click link below)
Range Forms
If you are renewing your CCW you will be required to take a 4-hour training course before issuance of your permit.

Same here. Just received my renewed card, thank the gods! Turned in my final money orders/video proof right after finishing the range requal....around 9/11. Received new card today 10/17. (GAWD that was a LOOOOOONNGGGGG 5 weeks since I had to fight the urge to call them every day....which I didn't :P)

Just over 5 weeks from final paperwork. This last month of being expired and "naked" was tough!

Be strong and patient folks! And thanks to the great folks at SBCSD for supporting our CCWs!

Went straight to SBSD, turned in papers and Money orders. She had me fill out the rest of the sections in the lobby and sign and was out in 15 min. I expire in Dec and she said it’s taking around 2 months to complete process so get your stuff done early as possible.

I’ll update with dates when completed so others can see timeline.

10/2-Range and turn in paperwork.
Update Everyone

10/17-received my Renewal Card today- I was shocked it came so fast, there was also a paper that said 1 sentence “Please carry current permit until new permit takes effect”

Not sure how I got it so fast, maybe doing Qualifying and paperwork same day, I don’t know.
Can’t say enough good things about the CCW unit, they really do work their tails off.

Wow. Pleasant surprise in the mail today. Did weapons qual at Prado Park on October 4th. Turned in paperwork on October 5th. Today, October 17th, received permit in the mail. Thank you SBSD. Special “thank you” to CCW Staff in the Human Resources Dept.

Question for those on here! I am a current LA county resident! But not for long I will be moving to Rancho Cucamonga within the next couple of months (1-3months) and was wondering the how the process is and just a little more clarification on what I need to have to apply for a CCW and how hard it is to obtain! For example is there a good cause requirement or will a simple for personal protection statement be ok ? Feel free to reply or pm me!

You need to go to the SBSD CCW site and READ the info there.
Then come back for clairfaction.

They are working real hard to try to get the back log cleared.
Weapon changes are slowed by DOJ.

As 38 Special suggested, some “light” reading at SBSD CCW. Many of the “bullet” entries are live links which drill down on the subject, so try clicking on them. Example: New Application Process” includes “California Department of Justice Application”. Click on that and you are treated with a wall of text “Before completing the application, applicants must read the following:”. The application is linked at the bottom.

Enjoy the journey.

Self defense/personal protection is all that is required.

However, they like to see 3-4 sentences about why you feel the need. I know we have a ton of post in this thread, but do yourself a favor read through at least some of it.

I'm new to the forum and I must say there are a lot of people in here that post very helpful information. Thank you for that! I recently studied up on the CCW process for this county by going to the SBSD CCW site and reading up on all of the processes and FAQ links.

My Timeline:

I submit my application on 9/11/2020
I was then after able to immediately schedule my CCW Interview after that.
The earliest date available was 1/12/2021 which is the date I selected.
I have all forms printed and pre-filled out. No signatures because you need to sign in front of a CCW agent. I also don't have the notarization form yet because it can't be older than 30 days old from your Interview date. Just a few helpful points for any new applicants in a similar timeline as me. Study up on the CCW site, it's very helpful. Again, thanks to all who have posted helpful information in this forum as well.

Default Just a few questions

So pretty new to calguns and just thought I’d ask some questions about acquiring a CCW. At this point with COVID is it even worth it to try or will it just take too long at this point. Also I am currently renting in Ontario, would that disqualify me from applying for CCW? I don’t plan on leaving here but I’m not sure if you have to be a “permanent” resident of San Bernardino county. Thanks in advance for anyone who answers the question.

Define 'renting' and 'permanent'.

Not sure how much I can define renting. I have a lease here in Ontario with my name on the lease and will be extending it mid next year. I don’t plan on leaving here anytime soon. And as in permanent I was referring to the fact that I am renting. Do I have to show that I’m a home owner or is a lease good enough? Thanks for replying!

I'm pretty new as well. I just put in my application on 9/11/2020 and was able to schedule my Interview for 1/12/2021 so as of my time line it's a 4 month wait for the interview which I remember reading would be a few month wait. It's definitely worth it to go through the process.

Make sure to study up on this site https://wp.sbcounty.gov/sheriff/ccw-faq/ (hopefully it shows as a link - it's my first time doing that). It's the CCW website through the San Bernardino Sheriffs Dept. There's paperwork you have to get prepared certain things you have to have in your name, like a firearm registered in California for instance and your name will need to be on your Rental Agreement and there are steps to follow, but again, it's all worth it. It breaks it all down for you on that site and the community in here is extremely helpful as well. Biggest thing is starting the process.

Anyone know if you get denied do you get a phone call or email, or do you just never hear back?

My interview was on July 8th and I still haven't heard anything.

I really shouldn't get denied as I had a CCW in Orange County for four years and have nothing bad on my record.

No problem at all. Post your progress here as you go along if you like. It could help others. Also the sooner you submit your application the sooner you can lock in an interview date.
