Default Wanting a Sword

First, I know zero about swords or knives.
That said, I am wanting a Viking style sword.
My Budget is under $500
Can you all point me in the direction of the best quality for my budget?
Wanting a single hand, functional, sharp sword, not a wall hanger.
Something on the order of these maybe?.

If you are looking for something like the "Viking" sword you linked, but a bit more historically accurate, the same company makes the sword below.

The construction and form is more historically correct to Dark Age Viking and Saxon style swords:

I think most I think the majority of Viking warriors had axes or spears and the sword was for the rich Viking Kings and noblemen.

It's your money so buy whatever you want but I will mention there is a current fad / trend of axe throwing bars opening up all over America (including in the very liberal minded East Bay of SF) where you can throw axes at targets ... while you drink beers.

( a stranger who was spreading the word about it told me he had spent around 50 bucks , including some beers and he and his date had a great time.)

Although I guess you could bring a sword to a wine tasting or cigar room without looking out of place.

I'm just joking and giving this thread a bump.

Generally Oakeshott type X blades - see https://myarmoury.com/feature_spotx.html and https://www.sword-buyers-guide.com/o...tt-type-x.html.The second one here has a discussion of good replicas, in your price range at the time it was written.

Albion swords has a selection of viking swords - https://www.albion-swords.com/NEXTGE...%20SWORDS.html but start at nearly twice your budget and go up.

Also https://www.arms-n-armor.com/collect...lo-saxon-sword, and https://www.arms-n-armor.com/collect...d-viking-sword, but those are twice your budget.

Actual antique examples can go up over $20,000.

Look up Thorson Forge on Facebook. Dale is the blacksmith and he makes some bad ***** knives, axes and swords.
Not cheap, but these are made to be used not hung up on the wall, razor sharp and lifetime warranty.

So that’s where my money is going...

I made a sword in high school metal shop. I when Mr Renick saw it, he paused but gave me a B+. Then suggested I leave class now and take it straight home.

Those Thorson items look way better than a B+!

My daughter really likes Ren Fairs.
We went to the one in Folsom and it was a great time.
She goes in character, so looks like I need to get into character as well.

Anyone a fan of Cold Steel swords? I've been looking at their selection for quite some time. Haven't pulled the trigger yet though.

Here is their Viking Sword:

https://www.coldsteel.com/products/s...ing-sword.html

I would probably go with this one below at this point, but it seems my taste changes every time I begin to think about again.

https://www.coldsteel.com/products/s...man-sword.html

Note: These can easily be found for much less than on Cold Steel's website. Just look around.

For those with considerably more modest budgets Cold Steel machete (in the shape if traditional swords) are on sale for $50 and less.

This is almost twice your budget but well worth it if you want a functional and historically accurate sword...

My buddy has a couple zombietools and they are really made for abuse. Handle nice too. They have done some cool Viking (modern twist) before but tend to discontinue and add new models. They have a cool axe right now on their site

Show us whatever you end up with
