Default Source for left-hand R700 barreled actions?

Looking for short action options.

I have an MDT chassis on the way.

Thanks!,

Bruno Shooters Supply, Northland Shooters Supply & probably Pacific Tool & Gauge all have actions listed for sale.

I would also check Grab-a-gun & Buds.

Bruno’s will install a barrel for you.

Northland will sell you a Remage barrel & nut. Not sure if they’ll
install a shouldered barrel or not.

I’m left handed. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a left handed “factory barreled action” for sale anywhere other than a private party. Not saying they aren’t out there somewhere, I’ve just not seen them.

NSS won’t barrel the action, but will supply everything you need to do it yourself. Once you own the tools, swapping barrels is just a matter of a few minutes.

Guess it depends on wether you’re looking for a factory or custom. Can always pick up a cheap Remy and sell the stock.

The easiest/cheapest source of a lefty 700SA is to buy a whole gun.
The youth models often go cheaper on gunbroker.

Hey Rick, thanks for all the great leads.

Also just FYI, I recently stumbled upon these from Brownells in several calibers:
https://www.brownells.com/rifle-part...rod105376.aspx

I didnt see a LH option, though admittedly, i didnt look very long/deep into Brownell’s site.

I am a left handed shooter, and I have assembled a couple of a LH Remington 700 actions into rifles. If I had to do it again, I would look on gunbroker.com, there are frequently a few LH 700 rifles for sale and they are not expensive. I also built a rifle on a Stiller Predator action, which is a stainless steel action that is modeled after the Rem 700 action, and it is already trued action and precision made. By the time you buy an action and have it trued, you could spend just a little more and have a Stiller Predator action.

How much are you looking to spend on the action? Also are you looking for just the action or a barreled action?

A lot of the major action companies sell LH actions. I just picked up a LH ARC nucleus barreled action from snipershide, they have a for sale section for us south paws which is nice. You could always look there for used.

I have not really seen the LH stripped actions actually available very often.
That's why I would just search for a complete gun to take apart.

Yes, I believe it was Thursday/Friday only. While I was shopping I could see items going into backorder/out of stock status as I refreshed and moved from screen to screen. Very quick selling stuff, I think.

I charge $300 to chamber and fit a blank to a 700 type action and cut to finish length.
Labor charge is the same for a $99 Shaw barrel or a $340 Bartlein.
Look at Douglas and Shilen for very good quality barrel blanks without a Bartlein price.

Definitely considering a R700 action and a remage-type barrel. Been learning a lot in the last few days.

Just finished mine. It’s a great option when shooting barrel burning calibers or wanting the ability to shoot multiple calibers when using something like a Bighorn action.

I've assembled a few Remage projects (6mm BR Norma and .243), with $300 barrels from NSS. They both shoot at least to my limit, which is a hair under 1/2" for 5 handloads at 100 yards. I'm not sure if or how much better they might shoot, in the hands of a capable shooter.

Gotta say, I never got any warm glow of accomplishment from the "DIY" nature of cobbling together a Remage. It took less than one hour to install the barrel, and I agonized over every step. I usually celebrate after a task like bedding a barreled action, or even a scope base, but this was not much more exciting than loading a magazine!

Which doesn't diminish the convenience of doing the job myself, under a nice shady tree, with only a small expenditure for tools. I wouldn't expect these rifles to shoot with Randall's or Lynn's, but with me in the driver's seat, it really doesn't matter!

Chassis showed up. Nice rig. (finish is 100%, camera is just picking up dust in some of the pics.)

First impression is that this is VERY ergonomic and surprisingly lightweight. Also, I have to tell you that I get warm and fuzzy thinking about my one of my many spare AR magpul stocks/grips being re-used on this setup.

That suits me just fine. Convenience is a big part of what I'm looking for. I don't want to spend a lifetime building this, and once built I wanted the aftermarket support that goes along with Remington rifles.

The ultimate goal is to get out to the range, and eventually the desert for some trigger time on steel plates. I also have an open invite for a hunt in Colorado...

Check snipers hide forum. They have a for sale section just for lefties that is full of awesome gear and you can post WTB ads in it.

If you're going to shoot from prone, an ordinary AR grip may be uncomfortable because of the angle. Most guys that shoot prone find a more vertical grip to use. The Masterpiece Arms chassis comes with a completely vertical grip.

Good to know.

I'm starting out with a set of A2, mil-spec furniture, and a set of magpul MOE stuff, too. Going to try those first, since I already have them.

I'll keep what you said in mind, though, if I find I can't get comfy prone.

I'm still on the hunt for an action.

In the mean-time, I installed a buffer tube and castle nut (couldn't have been easier), and am in the process of trying out the different grips and stocks I have.

What do folks think about the new magpul bipod? I saw one in the store, and I haven't read much good/bad. I like the form factor, but I'm more thoughtful about weight and function.

I actually have a foam shooting block that I use at the range for my other rifles, so I might just leave this one as light as possible, and forego a bipod.

Here is an example of the low rent version!

The action was scavenged from a left-handed 700 SPS Youth/Compact. A .243 with a thin 20" barrel is a useful gun for a lot of folks, just not for me. I cobbled a 26" NSS 6 BR Norma varmint profile on there, under the shade of a big pine tree. Added a Timney trigger, a conservatively fitted and bedded Stocky's stock, and the rifle will shoot at my absolute limit, which is an honest 1/2 MOA for 5 handloads at 100 yards.

I had to relieve the stock to fit the barrel nut, but the operation was successful, and the gun operates without a hitch. For an SPS! I polished up the bolt a little.

With the price of the donor gun, a good scope base, a replacement firing pin, recoil lug, pillars, etc, this one came to about $1,670 (That is the full taxed/delivered price, no BS.). I didn't factor in the tools because the tools are not expensive at all, and I built several of these.

Definitely a worthwhile project for someone who shoots like me. It might shoot a lot better, it might not!

Since the OP is my neighbor in San Diego, he should feel free to try this out, and maybe we'll see what a real shooter can wring out of it!
