Mounting question - PA 1x Cyclops Prism (old version)

So I just received one of these:

I have not done much of any 2 eye open shooting.

Is there any guidance for mounting the optic? In other words, what should I be seeing? Normally I would tend to go for that absolutely clear and sharp edged ring formed by the scope tube, when determining how far back to mount, if you know what I mean. But when I do this and have both eyes open, it just looks... off.

Are there any best practices here, or is it more or less "move it around until it feels good, no matter how clear (or not) that ring formed by the tube is"?

Currently I've got it on the very rearmost picatinny slot, which I do not see to many other folks doing.

FYI I am an average sized dude with an A1 length fixed stock on my AR15.

It's mostly personal preference. I have mine mounted more forward, over the ejection port. The same place most people mount a red dot. But that's not "the best" location.

With both eyes open, it's not the same as looking through a red dot tube where you mostly get a continuous image. There's a slight refraction such that the image is a little low. If you point it at horizontal blinds you'll clearly see the effect. I don't use the same technique as mounting magnified optics. The clear scope ring bit isn't a priority, although it is clear when I wear glasses. Without glasses, I get the ghost ring effect similar to looking through a peep sight, but the middle portion is crystal clear and in focus.

It takes some getting used to, but for me it was better than the Nike swoosh that red dots give me (astigmatism). If you just look through it a lot you get used to it.

Adjusting it to your own eye is super important with the micro prisms. It makes a huge difference picking the target up. I have one on a Bulgarian AK-74, and the other on an AR pistol. The eye relief is super forgiving

OK, thanks guys... sounds like it's about finding the mix of "look through the scope" and "look around the scope" that works best for you.

Mine's currently about where I want it, I think it is within the 3.7" eye relief number, but I am not seeing that "perfect black circle", which I guess is no big deal.

I find that the biggest distraction with both eyes open is the big old honkin reticle brightness knob on the side.

To avoid other distractions, I spun the front lens cap 180 so it opens downward and lays out of sight and the rear one I did some surgery on so when it flips open it almost lays flat on the top of the sight.
