Default Judge Voter Guide

Once again, the judge voter guide comes through to identify activist judges.

https://judgevoterguide.com/by-state-judge-races/

Only two of sixteen were recommended on my ballot.

This is good information and for those still voting in California, it would be wise to read the questions and vote accordingly .

As noted in the related CA 2A thread, would be wise to remember who appoints these judges. It could and likely would get worse.

Interesting, the Fifth District Court of Appeal is "retain" for all three justices, represents the central portion of the state.

DEFINITELY read the questionnaire that is sent to the candidates and used for this ranking. The Judge Voter Guide's questionnaire is not designed for the single issue of gun rights (it doesn't even mention guns). It's designed to identify activist judges on a broad range of issues.

Though guns aren't mentioned in the questionnaire, the person who runs and oversees the site - Craig Huey was endorsed by NRA, NRA Victory Fund, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, CA Pro Life Council, CA Republican Assembly - so one could assume he definitely is more to a 2A side vs. some of the very anti-2A voting guides. Just an observation. Here's a link to a more detailed list of how he suggests on candidates and legislation: https://craighuey.com/santa-clara-county/

Easiest thing to do is look at their current record. Of the 4 CA supreme court seats that are up for retainment 2 of the judges were appointed by Newsome and the other 2 by Jerry Brown. I havnt researched them but I would guess they are very anti.

Vote no on judicial re-election. We need new blood, those old judges are the problem.

Voting no sends the message: you did a crappy job. Get another one.

I agree that Craig Huey is pro-gun. Sam Paredes of GOC speaks very highly of him as being pro-gun, and I trust Sam.

But, if Craig doesn't explicitly ask the candidates for their position on 2A and RKBA in the questionnaire, we're left guessing/assuming. A given candidate could be anti-gun and yet not look like an activist judge (not likely but possible). Alternately, a very activist judge could actually be pro-gun (not likely).

Ah well, I ended up going with the guide's recommendations anyway, because I have no other data on these judges. This really sucks because the judicial system is where the pro-gun activists have been making the biggest wins (Heller, Bruen!!). We aren't winning in the legislative and executive branches in CA, so we desperately need more proven pro-gun judges in CA. But we have almost no info of how these judges rule when gun cases come into their courts.

Judges are a crap shoot. You are placing hopes on how one person will decide after all else fails. Be that as it may, instead of trying to figure out if they are pro gun, try to see if they decide cases based on the constitution and not the flavor of the day issues.

Judges you think are pro-gun can turn out to be anything but that. Look at where we are now, hoping Judge Benitez turns out to be a saint when he could wake up in the morning and have a complete change of mind and then what?

Look for Climate, ECO issues and social issues other than guns to figure them out. Don't make judges a one issue affair, how many times have we had judges who were thought to be solid conservatives in support of the constitution turn out to be the opposite? It has happened. Find out how they deal with other issues and that gives you a better picture.

The more emphasis there is on guns the more politicians (and never forget that judges run for office - that makes them political no matter what) and politicians will yell out about support for the 2nd/A right until they are elected. Same goes for Sheriffs.

Vote for the whole person as judge or you might find out you can have your guns while your male children become girls and you can't say anything about it. It is not a given that someone who is pro-gun is also a conservative. Single issue voting is how we got most of the major problems that exist today.

Default Voting "No" means Newsom chooses a new judge

Remember, if a judge isn't confirmed by the voters, Newsom gets to appoint their successor. So before voting "no" to nearly every single judge (as the voterguide suggests), it may be worth considering whether that judge is as bad as the one newsom would choose as their replacement...

It should be noted that unless the person you write in is on an approved list of write-in candidates, write-in votes are treated essentially the same as if you did not vote in the race at all. Write-ins are basically for candidates who didn't make the deadline to get their name printed on the ballots, but did meet the deadline overall to be candidates.

ALL the judges on my ballot went to Cal Berkeley, worked in Oakland or San Francisco as deputy DA's or city attorneys etc. Most were appointed by Newscum. Bay Area is lost forever.

The Bay Area will recover eventually after the radiation dissipates.

In a general election, 15 years ago you may have been occasionally true, but now your idea completely wrong. Pro-gun and conservative are so strongly entwined that it is a waste of time for a voter to spend time trying to find exceptions.

This year I googled who promoted judges to the bench. Anyone promoted by Newsom or Brown was a no vote. Anyone supported by the progressives was a no vote. This means all choices on the ballot were no.
