Default Current Lead Prices?

I have a Shiloh Sharps on order and I want to cast 535 grain projectiles. Most places including craiglist want $3 per pound. That seems high to me. What are your sources and prices paid?

Dan

For Hardball (2% tin, 6% antimony)
$2.18/lb
https://missouribullet.com/details.p...=12&secondary=

For antimonial lead (2.5-3% antimony)
$1.56/lb
https://www.rmrbullets.com/shop/rmr-...nnel-hardness/
You'll just need to add 1-2% tin for this one.

Or check out the swappin & sellin or vendor sponsors (ex.: the captain) pages over at castboolits.gunloads.com

In the past I have gotten it from the Castboolits site for about $1-$1.25 a pound shipped. This guy is asking $1.50 and has a 2000 pounds, in Whittier.

Dan

If you want to get creative - call boat salvage yards - I see you are close to the coast

The Catalina 27 was a hugely popular sail boat built from 1970-1990

The keel is lead- 2500+ pounds of lead

Many sail boats get retired. Salvage shops buy them for cheap - $1,000-$3,000 and part them out

The keels are cheap

Read up on ppe for lead
Buy a keel

2500 pounds of lead
Order some other herbs and spices to get the lead to the correct hardness

Make sure the lead you get doesn't have zinc. Your bullets will look like Slimmer when you drop them.

I have a couple of five gallon buckets of wheel weights if you are interested. We can work something out.

You may have problems with metals recyclers. My local one refuses to sell lead due to recent California environmental regulations.

I have been unable to get a keel from the local boat salvage yard for the same reason.

I have a 50 pound lead ingot with ,"DeerRun" stamped into it.
One day I might want to start casting so I might need it, unless...
Three dollars a pound.

Thank you all. I feel this is the most helpful of all of the subforums. I did reply to 2 individuals who offered awesome prices. I am tapped out on cash right now but plan to save over the next couple of months. I have a lot of research to do on 20 to , 30 to 1 ratios, etc.

My lead wheel weights are from about 15 years ago so not sure how much zinc would be in them. I may keep them to pour for fishing weights as I have the molds but would sell some lead if someone really needs it.
