Default CHULA VISTA GUNS

Stay away. I try to give every LGS a shot. I went in out of curiosity.... wondering what he had- never been there.

He asked if I had ever bought a gun so I said “no”. Yes, I led. Surprisingly - he had a Glock he told me, and was asking $800 cash only. I asked if that was a normal price he said yes... they normally go for that ....

Given, it is a pandemic and social unrest is happening - but c’mon Chief - don’t rip people off and blatantly lie.

I wouldn’t trust this place with any of my personal info. Rant over.

Stay safe
Stay healthy to all of CG

These are the same guys on Armslist who are selling Saturday Night Specials and spam post to buy guns. The amount of duplicate posts in different states is enough to keep me away.

So you lied and are giving them grief for lying?

Realize that the pandemic and riots have been going on for a while, so that may be their normal price since March. Plus, with the fact that first-time buyers are out there bogging their system with questions, I can see the FFLs frustration.

What model Glock? A G34, it may not be so unreasonable. A Glock 19? Maybe. But seeing some in the marketplace for more than that used, it may be fair.

Depends what the buyer is willing to pay.

Cholo Vista? That's where you buy them illegally on the street.

Meh, that's what they are going for now so it is the "normal price." At the moment. What would you expect him to say? "It's a pandemic markup, come back later."

It's like going to a car dealership and asking if it's a good price. Sure is if you're going to pay it, but you might also get a better price if you ask. Would you consider that "lying?"

Our LGS has only a few handguns in stock and I'm happy to say they didn't raise prices, as others said it depends on the model because the lower priced models were already sold early on.

$800 could be the normal for a while.

Poor form by the LGS.
I don't fault the OP for pretending to be a first time buyer. It's like going undercover.

I'm not sure I'm diggin the "cash only" part unless that's OTD. And even then, "cash only" works best when I give you cash and you give me the goods. Not when I give you cash and you keep my goods for an undetermined amount of time that's dependent on multiple factors. But hey, his shop his rules, and I can always just walk out. Hoooray America!

not bad if G34/g45 at $700 list price plus tax plus more state fees of $39

Any model other would be marked up at 800 otd.

What other brands did he have in stock showing?

Agree.

I certainly wouldn't buy it at that price but there will be some folks who need it will pay for that amount.

I just think it's supply and demand. Is it a good practice for LGS? Probably not.

Bottom line is, whether OP lied or not, the store could've been upfront with him. It would be just as easy to say before the "crisis" the price was $569. Now these are virtually impossible to get and we have to charge $800 for the added time and effort it took us. Done.

There's no reason for them to lie about it.

It’s not that simple. A new buyer would sit there and waste the LGS time discussing the why on “price-gouging”. There are multiple pages here with people that have experience buying guns and still argue about LGS and their outrageous prices.

A shop in Santa Maria called 'Get Er Gun " is the same way, doesn't have chit in the case but what he does have is super rare and worth 3x normal junk price.

Many local gun shops are selling Glocks for $650-750 new. Most of them are taking advantage of the current situation. And not just on Glocks. I'm seeing a 20-30% markup across the board at some of these shops.

As the customer, you can go undercover and do so ethically. Poor form indeed, and thanks for outing the LGS.

Exactly, and normally customer, especially an fng, would appreciate the honesty.

Sometimes it’s not price gouging. Unfortunately it’s hard to afford to keep the doors open with limited stock available with out adjusting prices.

On another note. Previous job, I had a guy trying hard to haggle asking why I wouldn’t.

My answer was that the others are patiently waiting in line for the reason you deserve to pay less than them.

I'm with you on the Project Veritas and mystery shoppers, but undercover cops are the masters of entrapment.

I can't speak for brand new purchases at Chula Vista Guns, but as far as PPT's goes, they're GTG.

A buddy of mine is looking to buy his first handgun. He stopped by Chula Vista Guns last week and was told they had one Glock in stock, a .45, and that they were asking $995 for it because "people like .45s".
