Default painting gun sight....any products really work?

A dear friend is having a lot of trouble seeing his front sight, he's getting older and we do tend to shoot in a somewhat darkened in door range.

We bring along a little battery powered light and that helps..... and we painted his front sight with a colored nail polish over white. the problem is it really doesn't last.

I thought perhaps using something like the lure and jig paints...similar to a powder coat finish where you heat up the lure and dip it in the finish but I'm not sure if you could just coat the visualized surface and not the whole of the sight.

Anyone have any hints or techniques that would work and afford a bit more longevity.

thanks

I use oil based Sharpie pens that I get at at Hobby Lobby. I like to use one color on the leading bottom edge and post (flourescent green or yellow) and another for the top bead (red or orange). Helps me acquire faster. All you need is a steady hand, it does not wear off easily but can be removed with alcohol.

Man, If I could get what Seiko uses on their watch dials.
After a few moments exposure to light, that stuff stays bright for several hours.

Default KRYLON Paint Pens

KRYLON Paint Pens! Found them at OSH a few years ago (when there still was an OSH). I use white as an undercoat, then either florescent orange or florescent green as a top coat. They have a fibrous chisel applicator about 1/8" wide and 1/16" thick as the "tip" - you shake 'em for a bit and it draws the paint into the applicator. Applying the paint precisely where you want it on a sight blade can be tedious, but the results are very good with practice.

They work well for me, and unless you bang your sights on rocks or scrub them with solvents, they last a long time.

Cut out a few pieces of glow in the dark condums and tape them on the sight. You're good to go. Each range session, just get a new condum and put it on the sight.

You're welcome.

Kg sightkote- they sent me a couple samples to test out for minimal charge and it's awesome. They have a glow version too that holds a charge as well as any coating I've seen. I added a drop of the blaze orange and glow, and you end up with a very bright orange sight that is also luminescent if charged with light.

Default Glow Inc.

The paint sold by Glow Inc. works well on gun sights; links below:

The radioactive stuff works nice...

Keep it away from the jewels.

I like the Birchwood Casey 2-stage sight paint. It is very bright and stays on.

Ignore the reviews by hacks on that page.

Degrease and then mask the sight, apply the white and let it dry a day, then apply the color you want over that and let it dry before removing the mask.
