Default Looking for someone in the Sacramento area with a Lathe

This is not actually gun related. I'm looking for someone who is able to just turn the bottom 1/4" of the threads off of some 2.5" long 3/8 bolts. Maybe 16 of them total.

Let me know if you might be able to help and what that would cost. Thanks!

I've got a lathe, but I'm in Tracy. If you don't find anyone closer, let me know.

Have you talked to machine shops. Seems like they should be able to assist you. I heard that the guys that run sc holsters in Loomis got into that line of work, but never looked into it.

Are you looking to shorten the bolts to 2.25" or create dog points with the last 1/4"?

Just knocking the last 4 or so threads off so the ends would look like the pic you posted. Not precision work. Theyíre being used as roller skate kingpins.

There's a little more effort in doing that, then "just" turning off some threads.

Yes, it does depend on the skill level of the lathe operator. Iíve had it done before and was a quick process. Thankfully Iíve got a few good folks here who have already reached out.

"Dog points?"

I've never heard that term before. I've frequently made set screws in that configuration, but didn't know there was a word for it. Googling tells me there are also "half dog point set screws."

This is great. I'm ending the day just a little smarter than when I started it.

It's nice to have a number of "lathe operators" to choose from.
