Default Who else buys stuff they dont reload for?

Is it wrong to buy stuff for reloading for caliber I dont own?

I bought 4 boxes of 3006 federal.
I dont own a 3006.

Bought a brand new 452x230 noe mould. Gorgeous mould.
I dont own a 45.

Bought 3 sets of dies. 243. 270. 300 savage.
I dont own either.

Bought a bunch of 38 and 357 dies, moulds, and projos at a estate sale.
I now own a home for them. Didn't then lol.

6 sets of 38/357 dies. Redding, rcbs, Lyman. I can only use one or 2 sets.

3 sets of 308, bought rcbs, then 2 sets of redding.

Lol too many scales. 2 Dillon 550s, a few mec add some single stages.

O my,
Am I the only one? Do I need mental health assistance?

No. Reloading is a big enough monkey on my back. I try hard to stay focused on the calibers at hand.

Lead me NOT into temptation, for I will follow.

But all those orphan reloading supplies...!

They need a happy home too. You just never know when a good firearms deal will come up you already have reloading supplies for.

My thoughts...

Depends if you’re paying retail for all this stuff you don’t need!

Buying stuff you don’t need isnt weird if it’s a heck of a deal and you can resell if you don’t end up buying the corresponding gun soon, which seems to happen more often than not at my place... buy low, sell high to offset costs of things you really need...

Wrong, no. Foolish, well maybe.

BTW if you need some brass for those calibers you don't own, give me a shout. I'm running out of storage space

I bought a Lyman .25 acp mold and cast about 4k slugs,I don't have a gun for it.
I have several RCBS dies that I don't reload for.
I have bought "Lots" of different bullets I don't shoot.
And don't get me started on brass,,,,,,

I bought a MEC 600jr 20 gauge reloader with hulls and didn't own a 20 gauge. Then placed an order at Midway and needed to round it up to get free shipping so I purchased a bunch of 20 gauge wads and still didn't have a 20 gauge. But I finally got the 20 gauge....

I do pick up components for stuff I don't have but only if I get a deal off calguns or craigslist and I figure I may eventually get the firearm or just use it for trading.

Many years ago - about 1982 - I bought 44-40, .222, .350 magnum, and .300 H&H dies at a yard sale. In 1984 I acquired a Remington 722, and I now have a very nice LH Kimber in .222; in 2015 I bought a LH 700 in .300 H&H in part because I already had the dies and in part because I wanted a rifle to shoot at 1000 yards. I acquired some .348 Winchester ammo in 2008 and now I have a Miruko mfg. Model 71 in that caliber.
I say be careful what you buy because of what you will buy. Does anyone have a .44-40 or a LH .350 mag (did I mention I got a bunch of .350 mag brass with the dies?) they want to offer at a reasonable price?

If you plan on picking up a firearm in that caliber, that make sense. If you're buying it and have no intention of reloading or using that caliber then I have no idea why you would do it.

Yes, i bought the 3 dies for 30 bucks (243, 270, 300 savage) i could not pass it up. Estate sale ended up costing me a few wheelguns in the end. Lol.

Do you own multiple of the same items? I see a good deal and its like home network shopping!

Nice another lefty. On my short list, a lefty anything Still no long arm lefty. A 12 ga lefty would be a nice addition, or winchester 64.

Because sometimes a deal comes by, and you have to say Dang, thats cheap. Ive gotten Sierra MK 308x168 for .10 a peice. Powder for 75 a jug. Sometimes its hard to say no. I will go and pick something up and have the seller ask if i wanted some brass, or random projectiles. Hard to say no. Lol

Here's how bad it is for me... I recently discovered that I have 3 sets of 30'06 dies and one 30'06 neck sizing die. The only 30'06 I have is a Garand. Also discovered I have two sets of 45 and 9mm dies. But the worst is when I went to get some primers from my stash and discovered an unopened 8lb jug of XMP 5744 back there. I have no clue where it came from or how long I've had it....

Dude! As soon as I saw the thread title, I *KNEW* it was you! Hahahaha!

Let me know if you ever get to casting any of that 45 230 grain projectiles. I'll pay you or swap you for something else you don't need!

Lol. Sorry. Yeah I can cast a few for you to test out. Ill explain the terminology when I see you.
I started with lee moulds. They worked, but these, bullets just fall out. And are usually almost perfect.

Don’t go thru any trouble on my account.

I’m not sure I’m at the level to monkey around too much with my press at the moment. Still trying to work out a few kinks on my Dillon.

Oh, I finally started using that brass from a while back. That is some beautiful brass!!! They look awesome! Almost hate to shoot them cuz I’d hate to lose them! Hahaha!

Lol. Franklin tumbler does a good job at cleaning brass.
I'm waiting on my case feeder conversions to show up before I go crazy on the 2 550s.

Yeah-That’s what I use! The FA rotary/wet tumbler. Awesome.

+1 on Dillon. They have awesome service if you ever need anything. Even when I broke a part, they sent me a new replacement for free! This was even after I offered to pay for it!

I recently bought dies and brass for a 6.5X300W. I have some bullets but one is on back order. Bought a new Leupold 4.5X14 scope for it months ago. Do not have the rifle ……………………..Yet.

I will get one for all the stuff I have. Just need to buy rings/bases still.

If I see a deal too good to pass up for a caliber that I might be interested in the future, I normally buy it.

In reality, I usually don't buy the gun and now I have all kinds of extra reloading gear and components taking up space, but I'm too much of a packrat to sell it off.

I have duplicates of Dillon conversion shell plates. I guess I could sell them but. ....
Too many dies as well, and now spare bullet moulds as the lee were nice to start but now ive upgraded.
Sell? Trade? Naaa better to hoard. Rotfl used to wonder how estate sales had so many duplicate reloading supplies.

If I don't use something, with rare exemption, in 6 months I get rid of it. Clothes, guns, furniture. Everything.

It's actually amazing. Feels great every time. I end up hoarding nothing and actually doing a lot.

I don't mean use *all*. I have powder that's years old now, but ill at least do a batch! Then I'll shoot it.

While I don't buy stuff for calibers I don't reload, I am given plenty of stuff for calibers I don't reload for, heck probably wont even own in anytime soon! Benefits of having friends who are old gun guys who figure the younger guy will take stuff off their shelves so they can have space to add more stuff instead.

I have those original Lee Loaders, the one's you need a mallet to seat and crimp bullets and such, in calibers such as 6mm Remington, .30 Carbine, .218 Bee, so on and such. Along with cases for .30-40 Krag, .222 Remington, and a few others. I love looking through the old paperwork from the 60s and 70s in those old Lee Loaders.
