Default DES shut down?

I was just told by somebody that channel 7 ABC was running a news clip that at 5:00 pm today the state was ****ting down all firearm and ammo sales? Anybody know if this is true?

Would not surprise me, I have been waiting for it. But I am wondering if the person who told you this was confused by the story that LASD was forcing gun stores to close:

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva says local gun stores and strip clubs will be ordered to close, businesses which he says have not been following social distancing guidelines from county officials.

I have not heard a thing from anyone about shutting down. I don't see how they can and not have lawsuits about it. I am working as usual, but being a smaller shop I fly under the radar.

I know that some cities are ordering gun stores to close but haven't heard of a statewide shut down.

When I talked to DOJ rep earlier this week I asked that specific thing and she told me they are operating on multiple shifts to keep the background checks going. I was specifically asking if everyone was going on delay and she told me they are not allowed by law to do that for no reason.

They are keeping their social distancing requirements met I guess by having people split across shifts 24x7 (or close to that).

This is specific to running background checks, etc.. I did not ask if the front end would have any turning off.. i was more concerned about customers that already had started their 10 day waits.

Any indication about any ongoing COE applications?
I submitted late last month and it is still pending.

I'n not familiar with how DOJ functions but are they capable of pulling people from one department in order to staff another one?

Supposedly LA Sheriff is flip-flopping *again* - going to hold a presser tomorrow morning to shut down gun stores?

When did you start your coe renewal? I started 3/12. Called customer service they said they are still working.

My COE took about a month to renew this year (vs. a day last year.)

Chris our local pawn shop Traders in Reseda is claiming ppt dros is a transfer so they are charging 25 on topo of the 47.19 for ppt dros. I tried to tell them it is ilegal and they told me to go elsewhere. If you know them maybe give them a heads up. I wonder how many people they defrauded of 25 bucks

Pay with a credit card, then dispute the excess with your credit card company with the documentation about the limit. As I understand it, there is a charge for disputed charges, so it will cost them quite a bit of money and if there are enough disputes, then they could lose their credit card processor and/or have to to more.

Or just go somewhere else. Seriously why try to actively put someone out of business. No one is forcing you to go there. Also you will loose the dispute because you signed the credit card slip and there is a receipt to back it up.

Also, just got this e-mail from @usdoj.gov this morning:

Quote:
This is an important message from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Pursuant to California Safety and Health Code Section 120295, all non-essential businesses have been directed to close during the COVID19 pandemic. Licensees can visit their city or county websites in order to determine whether your business is subject to closure. In the event that your city or county has designated FFL businesses as non-essential, and you are suspending operations, please take prudent measures to ensure the safekeeping of firearms, ammunition, and records. As a reminder, report all suspicious persons or activity to your local police department. Additionally, notify A T F at 888-930-9275 if you find any of your firearms lost, missing, or stolen.
So, I went to check CA Exempt Sectors that can stay in operation: https://covid19.ca.gov/img/Essential...ureWorkers.pdf

Sadly, it looks like gun shops aren't exempt, and are likely expected to close. But I'm not a lawyer or politician so who knows...

Because they are illegally ripping people off.

Why are you defending those who violate the law? I don't like the law, but that does not mean that we should not violate it.

It depends on the credit card company since they are illegally charging more than they are allowed to. Just because you signed it and there is a receipt doesn't mean it is a valid charge.

Your signature indicates you accepted the charge. The credit card company doesn't care what the law says. I am not defending them. There are plenty of FFLs that break the law and hopefully one day they will go out of business because people stop patronizing them. It pisses me off when employees of those stores come and do PPTS at my shop because I only charge what is allowed. What is the point in turning them in. I literally had a shop down the way selling illegal assault weapons got busted and they are still in business. Anyway back on topic no the DES is not shut down

Sorry, but I have seen results which indicate otherwise. Some credit card companies will do something, others will not.

You say that hopefully that they will go out of business, but also say why do anything about what they are doing, which doesn't make sense.
