Default What is involved in shooting with SMGC now?

I used to be a member. I would like to shoot across-the-course with the club again, but I don't understand the current requirements.

DBIDS is out of the question for me -- an hour drive down and back to sign up, another hour down and back to pick up the credential, and then it's good for, what, 6 months? That's a nonstarter for me.

Is there a mechanism for "guests" to sign up, and be signed in / escorted in on match days?

Become a SMGC member. https://www.smgunclub.org/about/membership/

SMGC sends the membership list to the base.

Go to the base and get your DBIDs card. One trip.

The card is good for the lease year. September of 2022.

There is no mechanism for being met at the gate and escorted in.

=============================

So this is no longer valid?

https://www.smgunclub.org/about/dbid...l-information/

WEEKEND BASE ACCESS (NO DBIDS CARD)

Civilians wanting to enter to participate in SMGC Rifle or Pistol Match must have Registered for that event through the PRACTISCORE application ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE EVENT. Failure to do so will result in you NOT Being allowed onto the base.

If your guest needs access during the Visitor Centers closed hours (i.e. weekends/evenings) they will need to be escorted by a Military ID card holder. NO EXCEPTIONS!

That works but if you are not a club member you will have to get your base access pass each time you register for a match.

Club members can get a DBIDs that is valid for the time of the lease, September 2022. One trip during the week to get your pass that is good until next year.

Does that mean, going down during the week to do whatever paperwork, then having somebody sign you in on the match day?

Or does it mean "get your base access pass" on the day of the match?

You go to the base and get your pass during the week. The pass will be good for the match you signed up for. If you sign up for another match you will have to get another pass to be able to enter the base.

Go to the base on the day of the match and show the guard your pass. He will scan it and then allow you to enter the base.

If you plan to go to several matches join the club as an associate member. You go to the base during the week to get your pass. The pass will be good for the remainder of the club's lease. Match fees are reduced for members.

I think I'll wait and see if the club comes back.

Looking at the SMGC web site, unless some matches are unreported, it appears there have been ZERO XTC, GSM, or midrange matches since August 2017. (Several announced, no results reported -- they appear to have been cancelled). I went through all the monthly Facebook posts. I see lots of reports, over and over, about how the paperwork will be approved Real Soon Now, but no results for the above disciplines.

I'm a former member. I've now avoided several years worth of dues -- and haven't missed a thing. I see other former members at other matches at other ranges. They've pretty much written off SMGC.

If it becomes a going concern again, I'll be back -- if the club will have me. But it doesn't look good, and it hasn't looked any different for the past 4 years.

I understand that you want to wait.

Keep checking the website. When we have a match there will be a Practiscore link.

The lease was renewed a month ago. In a nutshell, the club turns in range requests to the base. It takes about 60 days to get approval. This was happening before the lease expired. The club keeps a steady flow of range requests in the approval process.

Once the first requests are approved the other requests will be forthcoming.

Yeah, the website is pretty lacking so you have to follow Practiscore. Last XTC and Garand match was February, just before the lease ran out.

OK, good luck to you. I'll keep watching and hoping it comes together for you (and all of us).

I’m in the same boat waiting for high power/midrange competitions to start back up. Escondido Fish & Game has had similar problems getting certain matches going again after the COVID shut down.

Hope things get back to normal soon.

Greetings, Ditchdigger. Can club members with an approved DBID have access to the Pendleton range for non-match practice time? If so, any special requirements or restrictions?

Thanks. But as a civilian non-military, don’t I need a sponsor to get a DBIDS? Would joining your club help provide that?

The Santa Margarita Gun Club conducts rifle and pistol matches only.

If you are interested in competition, go to the club website.

www.smgunclub.org

You can see the types of competitions we hold. Membership application is available there too. The DBIDs process is explained.

NecroQuestion: Are green badges eligible for the MCCS recreational range at Range 216?
