The word is "Antiquated."

But the 580 Series does everything I require in a 5.56 Carbine, with a few alterations.

I prefer wood stocks over plastic. I even replaced the plastic handguard for matching wood.

They really are a great gun

I lucked out and got a great deal on the first mini I bought. It's a 189 series, stainless steel mini 30. I bought the new mini 14 to kind of match. I'd much prefer a blued gun like your.

I painted my stainless with flat black engine paint and baked it on at low temp in an oven. It is fairly durable except at wear points. I redo it every 4 years or so.

Brother, If I did that I'd be picking flakes out of the action and barrel for the rest of my life. I've learned over the years that I only do wood, everything else would just be a screw up on my part.

Can you post a picture or link. I'd love to see your work.

I have resisted one of these for ever because of the Bill Ruger legacy but damn..I really like this little carbine for home perimeter duty and as a car gun.

Well, another way to look at it is you could buy one now as a FU to Bill Ruger since they come with standard 20 round magazines now from the factory, and even sell "tactical" models now with a flash hider.
(Ca. excluded)

They are fun. If it's an itch that needs scratching, then for sure do it. Prior company owner politics aside.
