Anyone have any recommendations for a good gun safe that would be compatible with the Tesla Model S? The center console has two storage boxes above one another and if you open up both it goes pretty deep so that would be ideal.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

First - know the Frunk is not a safe. There is an emergency release for the Frunk passed on to emergency services so they can access it. Hence the criminal element knows about it. Do not consider the Frunk a safe space.
Second the only concept I've read about for the Model S (mine is a 2016 model) is bolting into a sheet of metal in the Trunk area on the back right of the trunk area. Of course this means its visible unless you put something like a jacket over it. Companies making center console units are doing so for the Y and 3 but not the S due to the cars limited production; I mean have they even hit a 100k S models yet? IDK. |

I use a Vaultek Lifepod in my 3, just loop the cable under the passenger seat and it works great!
Console vault makes one for the Y and 3, but I think it may block my camera SSD. Honestly, I like the mobility of the Lifepod. I used a generic gun safe from Amazon before that was similar size as the pod with no issues it was key locked, and used it when I fly.

Yes, the cable is susceptible to even one handed cutters, but so are the thick bicycle cables. What you are mistaking is that the cables are not meant for defeating those types of tools.
The cable on a handgun locking case is to prevent easy access of just taking the case outright after smashing the window, reaching through to open the door and doing a quick ransacking to grab whatever is loose before the vehicle alarm/horn attracts enough unwanted attention by the owner, bystanders or best but unlikekly scenario, a cop. In the above regard, the cable will normally accomplish the mission of defeating a quick smash and grab, since using a handheld cutting shear takes a tiny amount of time and requires the thief to carry the tool. Even a lockbox that is bolted to the vehicle is susceptible to defeat with a pry tool to the door locking mechanism, but it takes a little more time. Understand no lockbox will stop a determined thief that has time, just as no home safe will do that either. Lockboxes with cables or bolts are reasonably effective for the most common type of auto burglary, the smash and grab. |

the cables will frustrate the typical target of opportunity methhead and eventually deter them. i use 2 cables connected to the driver and passenger seat. but the biggest deterrence to falling victim to a smash and grab is not driving around a tesla.

I use a gunvault-type (forgot brand) cabled to the track of the front passenger seat. Haven’t found one for inside center console yet although I’m not actively searching.

I had that issue too, and finally figured the I needed to raise the passenger seat up and forward a bit. That gave me the room to slide the Vaultek safe under the seat, and allow access to loop the cable under the seat frame next to the center console. I can loop the cable pretty quick but have to make sure the seat is raised. It?s easy and works when I need it.

I have the console vault in my Model 3, it does not block the USB plug for the charging cable and SSD drive for dash cam at all. The vault is quite small, but still fit my firearm when I need to place it in there. I would say that it?s better than anh box and cable you put in the car. I do use a box and cable in my Audi SUV, been working fine so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
