Default Compass / Navigating Course

Just wondering if anyone knows of any organization that offers compass and navigation training? Have been watching a lot of you tube and reading a lot but would like a more structured type course.

The Marine Corps offers the best program I have encountered. Try reading this handbook, it is similar to what I used to teach, when I was an instructor at the Infantry Training School. I just skimmed it but it appears to be complete and through.

I tried to upload it but it is too large, so here is the link. https://formerlynmurbanhomesteader.w..._handbook1.pdf

See if the Boy Scouts have a class you could sit in on.

Try looking for an orienteering class/club.

While I was an Assistant Scout Master with the Boy Scouts, we took the boys to the Los Angeles Orienteering Club events/meets. The LAOC are good people and a good organization.

Best regards,

I took an Under Water Navigation course during my Search & Rescue Scuba Dive certification.

The course included classroom and dive exams.

During the dive exam; our instructor had a 5-gallon bucket filled with sand, and he hid the bucket under water in the dive site. He showed us (me and my dive buddy) the map that marked where the bucket was, and we set out to find it.

The kick was... the water in CA here had about 5 feet visibility and it was 40F cold. We practically couldn't see anything under the freezing cold water, and we needed to rely on the navigation skills that we learned from the classroom.

Long story short, we passed the exam and got certified.

It was one of the most useful courses I have taken, and the skills could be applied to everyday life.

Check your local community college. I remember we had a course that they made the FF students take. It was all compass/gps and how to read topo maps kind of stuff.

This might sound crazy, but gps satellites will be operational even in TEOTWAWKI. Finding batteries might be a problem, but any hand held unit will still work and give you a bearing and location.

In actuality, using a map and compass is relatively easy. Land nav and all that however is more about experience in the woods, using landmarks, stuff like that.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.
