Transfer rifle from out of state through FFL disassembled?
I haven't done this in over 10 years, but can't find that it's wrong:
I called an FFL to ask if you can buy a gun out of state, and have the seller separate the upper and lower. They transfer the serialized half, I keep the other half. The FFL told me that this is the same as a straw purchase? I thought it is ok since the receiver isnt semi automatic (incomplete). Am I wrong? If not do you have a recommendation for an FFL in OC? Thank you! |

And next time don't spill your guts. Never tell a FFL more than they need to know - nothing good will come from it, especially if you are dealing with brain dead FFLs like the one you called.
Imagine you are dealing with someone whose brain is the size of a marble - you need to keep your questions simple and do not introduce any extraneous information. Your only question for a FFL is "can I transfer an assembled rifle lower through you?". That's it. No talk about uppers if you are not sending them a complete rifle. In OC, I’ve used OC Guns in Lake Forest off Aspen.
Really nice and very accommodating. Open at 10. Just treat this deal as a lower only. Good luck
